In The Atlantic, I explained why oversized EVs pose growing danger to those walking, biking, or inside smaller cars.

Biden and the US Department of Transportation have avoided acknowledging the risks – let alone addressing them.

Biden Is Ignoring the Menace of Mega-EVs

Environmental hype has crowded out any concern for people outside the vehicle.

@davidzipper Unfortunately, where I live, I already have to deal with large gas-powered SUV's (status symbols) or large pickup trucks (phallic symbols). As a cyclist I am acutely aware of the danger I already face. More cycling paths to facilitate shopping and commuting are needed, yet the only paths we have here are considered 'recreational'. Transportation needs to get off fossil fuels, but also needs to focus on non-motorized means.
@davidzipper trucks in general are a problem too
@davidzipper Weight-based vehicle tax seems like an obvious solution to me, it encourages more efficient vehicles and directly addresses one of the major factors for both road wear and traffic injuries/fatalities. The Federal government should be taking a leadership role, but it's seemingly asleep at the wheel. I'm hoping that D.C. and Colorado can show the way for other states to pick up the slack left by negligent regulators.

@davidzipper

The emphasis on EV is not appropriate.

Otherwise a good article.

Status == bigger, heavier.
This applies to both EV and carbon based fuel SUV's and pickup trucks.

This will require laws to curb the trend or a tax on luxury cars to curb the use of them.

There is a very good youtube on the subject.
