Stripped Nora's face to try again
And again
And again
I am very bad at this and artists should be paid more lolololol
I tried eyes, highlighting, mouth, shadows, everything is hard on these tiny ass faces
Nothing works. Face bleeds into hair. Hair bleeds into face
I added butt spackles like she sat down in something to amuse myself after failure so many times
Bruh btw
I do not recommend glaucoma
My lack of depth perception up close has led to... numerous fails
Don't get glaucoma
I think I wanna highlight/recolor her boots but that's it lol
After that dry and varnish TO MAINTAIN MY FIRST FAILURE FOR ETERNITY
Roughing up your mini for wear is a lot easier and more fun tho ngl lol
Bonus: is a soap box the right size for a 32mm scale cargo container 🤔 bit tall, width is good...
Kinda foamy?? Instructions say light coats
Does not specify number
Side note: wasted a lot of varnish
Shoulda waited to do more at once
lollllllll ebay hides nude minis behind verification
the verification is in effect even if you're logged in
you just have to click on the blank perview
*golf clap*
when i was young this level of puritanism was annoying
the older i get the more mad i get
you think young people don't know what tits look like
you fucking jackasses
this was not hidden behind a blank preview
because stars lolololol
MARIO POWER ⭐⭐
i know that's not a mindflayer, but no lie mindflayers still creep the fuck outta me
not because of the mouth tentacles (okay a little) but because MIND CONTROL is so underrated as a power
that shit will have you constantly questioning your entire reality, without actually changing reality
legit chaos super power
so 40k is both 28 and 32mm scale, depending?
annoying. fallout warfare is 32mm scale and i find that hard enough
28mm sounds even worse xD but i guess big chonky space marine helmets are easier than faces
on one hand there is really no giant central site to show off 3d printed minis
otoh it is cool to hit up a bajillion sites to see what all the third parties are doing
very early internet vibes
*squints potato programmer eyes*
I can't really see a difference lol
Maybe that's good? But it was an ultra matt varnish... xD
Maybe the metal on the power armor is more dull
hrm. maybe i kinda feel like it actually brightened the back of the power armor
maybe it's the lighting (in the last photo) but i feel like i lost some of the value differential between the highlights of the edges and the darker pockets
to my naked eyes it looks about the same tho xD
anyway apparently varnish might take /days/ to fully set?
so maybe it'll change over time xD
GUESS I'LL FIND OUT
it definitely did not dry as cloudy as it looked in the shot glass before i brushed it on
also it was foamy as fuck but all the bubbles popped i guess
i did try to poke them while brushing but... there were a lot of bubbles
kinda wondering if i can paint over it, then re-varnish later
i assume i can, but also it's probably not as good of a primer as literal primer
I CAN GIVE HIM A BELLY
WHAT A WASTE
AFTER LOSING SO MUCH WEIGHT
you have a pretty fine degree of control over the stuff attached to you, can move around your helmet and stuff
avoid clipping? add clipping? you do you, they just print it xD
you can sorta hide it with arm positioning and moving the grenade to clip through the thumb more or less out of view lol
bad feels tho
mmm... the lack of white is coming to bite me
mutant hound teeth and deathclaw claws xD
Trying the whole layering thing
Not going well lololololol
Also I don't have white but I have a "heavy gray" which is quite light...
Okay this is shit but I think I figured it out
When artists say use a few layers it's like when chefs say use a pinch of salt or a bit of butter or a clove of garlic
They are lowballing the fuck outta you xD
starting to feel like 90% of painting miniatures is learning to thin paint appropriately for the task at hand
is this why everyone uses airbrushes xD
honestly i feel like a large part of my dissatisfaction with this is how shiny they are lol
and the one hard directional light is not helping xD
not sure that "ultra matt" varnish is gonna help either but i'll prolly do bases and varnish tomorrow
i bought more fallout minis because they were 20% off, no tax, and free usps shipping
what can i say i am scum lololol
they shipped this morning, and via usps! \o/
+1 for cmo games
i ordered more paint
like. white paint
i can't believe i didn't order white paint the first time lololol
also got a chance to get more of the paint i know imma use on the rest of my minis, and the ones in the mail
that fluorescent green is actually pretty baller
I'm not saying I'm done with these yet, but I am saying these are killing me lolololol
Lessons learned:
1) holy fuck light paint on dark paint is a nightmare,
2) I am very bad at two texture bases, and
3) the difference between intentional disorganized chaos that looks good, and accidental paint splatter, is probably skill and experience
a lot of the fallout warfare mini bases are quite nice and you can do stuff with them
and then the hounds are like a flat patch of dirt with a slightly raised paved road or something
part of the problem is also i primed it all black, and then while i highlighted the hounds more brightly, the undersides were quite dark, so then... i didn't want the bases also dark
the point is i suck at this and don't plan anything in advance lololol
i swear to god the fucking spine spikes on the deathclaw killed me
absolutely wrecked me
i wanted them to be bright fluorescent green
but every coat it looked great... until it dried. then it looked like dark shit
light on dark
over and over i put like a dozen coats of that fucking paint on and it did not improve
eventually used a bright yellow
same deal with the rim of the deathclaw base
that was black primed and fluorescent green will not do fucking shit on it
i layered yellow on it, then tried to layer the green
what is pictured is like 6 layers of green
it will not fucking work lololol
@worthlessbums partly. Because yeah, the more paint you use the less detail and the more shiny it gets.
I use an airbrush because I started to really dislike rattlecans but also like the control on blending it gives me. I'm also ridiculously lazy and half my painting these days is entirely prime dark -> light spray white -> drybrush edge highlights even whiter -> contrast/ speed paints -> drybrush and washes.
Like... just a single coat of actual paint there... and I'm going to see if I can load the contrast paints into an airbrush for the next batch I work on.
