DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa teenagers could work more jobs and for longer hours under a bill signed into law Friday by Gov. Kim Reynolds. The Republican governor signed the law after it was approved by the Legislature earlier in May with only Republican support.

Corporations believe they created a self-sustaining class of skilled workers that will be able to afford to educate their own children and supply an educated work force while the rest will be forced into the life of manual laborers stripped of public schools and other social safety net programs. The American dream is dead not just unattainable for the majority of us. People sold out their country for a tax cut.

The difference now is that the 80's family's had their own business and more money within their accounts to work with. In the 80's I saw small business taken over by corporations. Middle class families started dwindling and citizens making wealth growth ground to a halt.

Since then, the financial squeeze has been 100% from the top down.

@augieray Child labor can be instructive and important but can we as a society think to trust corporate interests to protect our most important legacy?

I think not. Corporate Dems are just as rotten as Reps, the machinations of our government are no longer working: of the people, by the people and for the people... a republic with democratic voting system.

Instead the underpinnings of an oligarchy have taken hold and both parties have been assured short term interest in their success.
