Nebraska. Republicans gather to celebrate banning healthcare for trans kids and simultaneously eliminating abortion access in the state

In Jesus’ name.

A Jesus who:

Hates science
Hates gay people
Hates trans people
Hates poor people
Puts gun rights above children
And needs your money

Think about the kind of person it takes to celebrate hurting others.

For many of us, this isn’t just the face of the GOP. This is the face of Christianity

@flexghost Jesus was a liar and a grifter. He is the perfect symbol for the modern GOP.
@Gustodon that earned you a follow and I turned notifications on.
@flexghost I appreciate that. I really admire your point of view.
@flexghost Yep. So-called christians need to fix their major malfunction. And this shouldn't gloss over the fact that no law or government policy should ever be done in anyone's Jesus' name or any other deity. Ever.

@flexghost I saw photos of people smiling and dancing after the abortion and anti trans bill passed, and I just cannot fathom how someone can be so happy about causing another person harm.

They didn’t do it in a vacuum, either, it was after extended testimony from folks who will suffer in the future, for a three month filibuster.

If someone explains to me they’re suffering for three _minutes_ I will want to help them?

Anyway, it just hurts to see people happy that I might disappear.

@Haste well said. They sat there with those sticky smiles, listening to testimony from people directly affected, and still had the joy of an HOA member giving fines to an old woman for her birdbath.
@Haste @flexghost Fuck them. They aren’t Christian’s no matter what they call themselves and those of us who are love you and support you and we’re working to drown out the voices of those creeps.
@Haste @flexghost people that realise that you can kick other people down and gain power convinced those people that the root of all thier problems is a minority that can't fight back and supposed moral failings. I don't find thier reaction surprising, just sad because the moral failings was them.
@flexghost “Jesus I trust in you”.
‘Forgive them Lord; they know not what they do’ has been a prayer I’ve said for my #MAGACultists
They are deep in their own self-will & not willing to even talk to God in real way or align their will to God’s.
I’m Christian & since I’m in recovery too it has a whole different meaning to me- being Christian.
Those fakers in NE will never humble themselves
@RiaResists @flexghost oh, they know exactly what the fuck they're doing. Hateful people who get off on hurting others and thinking they're so damned superior for doing it.
@darwinwoodka @flexghost oh yes there are some who do it straight out if a sense of superiority.
There are too many others who know in their hearts it’s wrong but are conflicted bc some religious leader told them it’s how they believe.
Those are the ones being lead astray & those pastors or priests need to be defrocked or whatever.
@flexghost BTW that image of Jesus is that of a 12th century Italian prince which is why he's so freakin' white.
@flexghost idk, their Jesus looks a little gay there
@flexghost Those people featured in that picture are using Jesus' name as an excuse to hate... They're just to filled with ignorance and stupidity to know that... But we know... Those types of Christians are what we call "sign of the cross" believers... You know the type that only know how to make the sign of the cross...
@flexghost PS: For me, they're not the faces of Christianity...
@customer228 they are for many of us in the LGBTQ community.
@flexghost All good people need to stand together, regardless of our differences, because there are bigger problems facing us. Certain extremist Christians want us to attack one another, so we don't team up and attack them... This strange word "solidarity" comes to mind...
@customer228 I don’t do “solidarity” with child predators, transphobic hatred or people trying to destroy democracy.
@flexghost Definitely! Just to be clear though, I only meant solidarity among good people, and good people only! May child predators, and any with hatred towards the innocent, burn...
@customer228 ah. Well. All three of us should get together for pizza.

"This is the face of the most unfuckable people I have ever seen" - Goddess Athena

A state with a total population of 2 million should not be seen as bigger than it's perceived in the rearview mirror

@flexghost I used to live in Omaha, > 20 years ago. It was pretty Republican, but the old kind, business types. I moved to NC because while it was Teh South, it was moving in the right direction.
Those days are gone, in both states. The coalition of Jebuz and Q nuts is destroying society.
@kflanagan beautiful states. Destroyed by morally disgusting people
If I could plaster this on every billboard across America, I would. @flexghost this is why Americans have lost their minds! https://medium.com/belover/who-owns-god-rupert-murdoch-of-course-2c2582cd98ed
Who owns God? Rupert Murdoch, of course - I blog God. - Medium

The economics of ‘God’ is a subject full of surprises. Murdoch owns 10 out of 20 of the top-selling Bibles, including #1 and #2. Another surprise? Christianity is a ‘secular’ business—and keeps quiet…

I blog God.
@flexghost Didn't Jesus call a Canaanite woman a pig for being a polytheist? This is why I will never make the mistake of calling Christianity a religion of love, or say that hateful Christians aren't following the 'real' teachings of Jesus.
@Meowthias I mean. She could stand to lose a few. Jesus was just letting us know her shortcomings.
@flexghost It’s the face of pure fucking evil!
@flexghost It’s a mentally ill cult.
@flexghost i want to agree but I can't. I do not believe in God and if you read the Bible as history of cultural believes it makes sense. As society change, so did the messages in the bible. I do not believe it's the bible at fault but the people looking for excuses to discriminate using the bible selectively.

@flexghost
All records of things Christ said don’t reflect anything you attribute to him. As pointed out in replies, lots of bad folks in the Bible and plenty of strict laws. Christ became an enemy of the Pharisees and Sagicees by condemning their hatred and insisting on loving the poor, the ill, and the outcasts.

It’s almost as if Christian often means “against Christ’s teachings.”

@mcnulla Jesus Christ was amalgamation of many other myths of the era, compiled by someone who didn’t even live near where this supposed Jesus existed and done so many years after this fictional characters death.

@flexghost
The statements from your first post aren’t reflected in any book I’ve read.

And you can hate any followers of Christ that you want. That would include me, who is against all the disgusting things that the Nebraska republicans are pushing. Prejudice is a bomb that kills enemies and allies.

@flexghost Jesus of the bible they supposedly read washed people’s feet.
@flexghost having lived my entire life in southern Baptist land. It’s been a foundational part of evangelical Christianity for awhile. They are just much more overt about it these days. On the plus side, showing their true colors means more people care rejecting their ideology
@sylviedparris I truly hope so
@flexghost data says that the SBC has been losing membership for over a decade , and the faith over all for awhile, at least in the US.

@flexghost Jesus Christ literally said that all true followers of his can drink any deadly liquid and not be harmed. And that all of the old laws will remain in effect forever, so you have to eat kosher. Also, you don't need wash your hands before eating.

Maybe you should NOT listen to Jesus Christ for advice.

@csstrowbridge that one time all of his followers planted mixed crops and wore mixed fibers, but didn’t get stoned to death …

@flexghost @csstrowbridge
Many ancient cultures knew the benefits of companion planting. Leave it to the bible to be wrong about that too.

Deuteronomy 22:9 - Various Laws

Do not plant your vineyard with two types of seed; if you do, the entire harvest will be defiled--both the crop you plant and the fruit of your vineyard.

@flexghost It's well past time to start treating religion as a mental illness.
@scenario except that I feel sympathy for anyone suffering from mental illness
@flexghost Every religious nut I know chooses to remain brainwashed. So I have zero compassion for them.
@flexghost just because they put Jesus on their poster doesn't mean they are Christians. Dont offend the entire Christianity religion by saying that they are represented by these people.
@tizi they are Christian. Your reaction is proving my point.
@flexghost @tizi
I'm not sure how much we should try to separate the rational religious from the extremists. The rational religious people are rational to the extent that they reject edicts of the bible, like stoning unruly children or murdering queer folk. The rational ones provide cover for the extremists.
@Jeramee that assumes religious rationality exists to begin with.
@tizi
Yes. That's why I said they are rational to the extent they reject their religion.
@flexghost
Where do you think my reaction is coming from?
Just curious.

@flexghost Disclaimer: I am not religious.

Have you actually read the Bible? It in itself doesn't hate poor people, or science, or many of the things you listed. You associate these qualities with those who lean right, and they also happen to be much more religious statically — and use that as their own excuse.

I'm not here to argue, but I think if you really want to educated in your views, read at least the single book that is the source of your negativity.

@flexghost
For example, I'm not a Nazi — but readding Mien Kampf helped me understand the origins and basis for Nazism, how to recognize it, what it actually means, and how to combat it.

At the very least — if you view this as some sort of ideological war — know thy enemy.

Otherwise, can you say your views are based in fact, and reality? Or do you just hate something that you don't understand, and those who don't share your worldview? Understand theirs, in order to solidify yours.
