I’m a grown-ass man who’s been doing what I do for 33 years, but when someone takes the time to send an email and give me positive feedback about my work, it’s still meaningful and is a welcome boost to my spirits.

Thank someone and let them know they did a good job. You’ll like the results.

@adhdeanasl Oh yes, same here. I am 64 kilobytes-age old, and I still love positive feedback.
@adhdeanasl I do that all the time because I get how rare it is and how good it feels. BONUS: I get an endorphin lift, too!
@adhdeanasl A kind word of appreciation is one of the best gifts a person can give and it literally costs nothing.
@adhdeanasl Knowing people care about what you do is a big part of good mental health.

@adhdeanasl @donmelton I write what I think is a clever and funny and uninformative travelogue when I go on interesting vacations. This year my brother called to tell me that he thought it was awesome. He’s 71 and I’m 65 and I’ve been feeling warm and fuzzy for TWO MONTHS now since he said it.

In other words, I endorse this message.

@adhdeanasl when I was a supervisor at the casino I work at, I would ensure I always said thank you to the dealers for calling out buy ins, and I constantly fought for recognition for them whenever they went above and beyond. That coupled with my fierce protectiveness over them, and my blunt force of pushing patrons out early in the morning so dealers didn't have to do overtime, made me a favorite among many dealers, and they were sad to see me step down.

@adhdeanasl you know, it’s funny… I do this a lot in my workplace as well and every once in a while, I will get the question “Fletch, you’re always so appreciative and thankful of folks just for doing their jobs. Why is that?”

Cuz they fuckin did a good job and I appreciate it, and that’s worth noting 🤷‍♂️

I try to avoid the 50 layers deep on how some shit is hard to build up the steam to do if you’re not like 150% neurotypical, but the whole speech is there, in my back pocket…

@adhdeanasl

Yep. You never know when those kind words will be the only thing that keeps a person going.

And yes, I've been there; on one notable occasion, I was reduced to tears at someone's basic kindness because my work situation was so bad.

It costs nothing to give a compliment.

@adhdeanasl Too many people have forgotten the power of gratitude and acknowledgement in our increasingly hostile, and divisive world. Expressing gratitude and thanks doesn't just make the recipient feel good. It makes you feel good, too!
