Let’s be clear. DeSantis is encouraging vigilante justice. A black man is dead at the hands of a man who sought to restrain him. The man is charged with manslaughter, and rightfully so. Let the jury see the evidence. Slimy politicians, stay out.
@georgetakei Thank God Penny is being prosecuted in NY and not Florida. If he had the chance, DeSantis would pardon this asshole.
@georgetakei DeSatan didn’t use the word “woke”. Remarkable restraint for him.
@leemeade @georgetakei He said Jewish (sorry, "Soros-funded") so he didn't have to. 😬
@georgetakei talk about 'poLiTicaLly moTivAteD' justice. Well, that right here is it.
@georgetakei
Deliberately cleaving the nation with this Trumpian divisive demagoguery by exploiting this tragedy for political gain is unacceptably grotesque and disgusting.
@georgetakei The dark clouds continue to gather...
@georgetakei You're being far too generous, DeSantis is encouraging murder. At least in principle, vigilante justice is about an individual or mob taking it upon themselves to punish someone for their crime. What was the crime Neely was ostensibly being punished for, being annoying to passengers on the subway?
@DeanBaker13 @georgetakei the "law abiding" part is pretty cute too. The one who wasn't abiding the law is being defended by this pos , while pretending the guy having a crisis was breaking laws.
@georgetakei seems the Florida gov has an interesting definition of a good Samaritan. I didn't think the biblical reference involved killing people needing help.
@georgetakei

Penny would have gotten away with it entirely in Florida...

It really is disgusting!
#republicans
@georgetakei On Substack, I saw a good article called “Jordan Neely was a Person” that I think you might like. https://open.substack.com/pub/armoxon/p/jordan-neely-was-a-person?r=4wyt1&utm_medium=ios&utm_campaign=post

One Nation Under Fear - Part 1

The Reframe
@georgetakei I'm confused... how is prosecuting somebody for allegedly committing a crime a pro-criminal agenda? This "defense" of Daniel Perry is the most damning evidence I've seen that he's guilty.
@wolfger
It's their bizarro world---up is down, black is white. Alternative "facts" - whatever they want it to be.

@JudyOlo @wolfger

Heh. If they thought black were white, things would be different.

@georgetakei "Good Samaritan"??? He spelled murderer wrong.
@georgetakei vigilantism is anything but law abiding. How can one stick to an ideology of daily self-contradiction? Those living in Trump land really scare me. They are literally crazy people with guns.
@georgetakei Republicans don't just want to end food stamps, they want to murder homeless people in the streets
@georgetakei he is interfering in an open case of a murder in NY using his political position.
@georgetakei The casual anti-Semitism of referencing/implicating George Soros is getting incredibly out of hand.
@georgetakei Nothing changes. I recall a guy in NY city shut a person in the train and he got away with it. I believe it was around the 80s.
@HolgerFiallo @georgetakei
Bernhard Goetz, the Subway Vigilante.
He shot 3 men, paralyzing one permanently. He escaped conviction for assault and attempted murder, but was guilty of illegal handgun possession and spent a few months in jail.
Goetz was hailed by some as a hero. He has made public statements supporting Penny.

@georgetakei

Do Americans have a different bible from everyone else?

"But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he killed him and saved future Levites and priests from the annoyance ."

@georgetakei Lock up the killer and throw away the key.
@georgetakei Ponce de Leon went to Florida looking for the "Fountain of Youth". Turns out, all Florida offers now is a fountain of hate and fear. This is not America.
@georgetakei
“Soros-Funded”
DeSantis also managing to throw in that anti-Semitic dog whistle. DeSantis is a sociopathic creep.
@georgetakei Well it's not like Penny strangled a *white* guy.
@georgetakei Can’t help but notice that the frequency and shrillness with which someone proclaims themself to be “pro life” is often proportional to a seemingly unquenchable lust for violence and death.
@georgetakei There is no justice here, vigilante or otherwise.

@georgetakei Good Samaritan... I can't find the part about murder.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parable_…

Parable of the Good Samaritan - Wikipedia

@georgetakei let's also not overlook the quite obvious anti Semitic dog whistle
@georgetakei And the world watches as the moral compass of the US sinks ever lower.
@georgetakei indeed... I wonder if he would be so onboard with this sort of thing if it was someone like him 😉 who got the vigilante axe
@georgetakei and then there's Greg Abbot's bankrupt gun policy for Texas....

@georgetakei
He's a _former_ marine, and every single news story mentions it. What's the obsession with his previous job? Are we supposed to thank him for his service? It's just part of the US militarism that makes the rest of the world roll our eyes.

Isn't the skinny victim's curtailed self-employment as a Michael Jackson impersonating busker more interesting?

@georgetakei And here I always thought that "good Samaritans" helped people and left them better and didn't kill them.
@georgetakei I was a Marine for 9 years. If a jury finds him guilty of manslaughter, he should pay the penalty. That’s how it used to work in this country.
@georgetakei As a NY'er, I see the bigger question as why have the NYC subway stations and trains become so dangerous AGAIN? Why are they a shelter for the homeless and those in need of care and assitance? This tragedy did not need to happen AGAIN.

@georgetakei he won't like what "take back the streets for law-abiding citizens" produces.

Because he's not one of them.

@georgetakei
I guess I have had the story wrong since I attended Sunday school as a child. The Good Samaritan didn't clean a stranger's wounds, transport him to safety, and pay for safe lodging. He killed him! Who knew?
#hypocrites

@georgetakei

Can someone point out to me the part in the bible where good Samaritans kill people? I seem to have missed that bit.

@georgetakei DeSantis is the slimiest of the slimy.
@georgetakei He isn't called "DeathSantis" for no reason. I hate him!!!
@georgetakei The Good Samaritan would help a person in distress not strangle him to death. The proportion of criminals in the Republican political class should terrify us all.
@georgetakei I can't help but wonder if the fundraiser for a criminal doesn't count as proceeds of crime as funds earned indirectly from the commission of a crime are also part of that definition.

@georgetakei Could it be Con DeSantis is a sociopath himself, or is he just underhandedly appealing to the depraved sentiments of his hoped-for sociopathic base?

Anyway, sociopaths need to be kept away from running for & holding public office.
This should well apply to rebellious Ron The Con DeSantis!

@georgetakei Soros should sue him for millions
@georgetakei I read the parable of the Good Samaritan this past week and I just couldn’t find the part where the Samaritan choked anyone to death. He gave a guy first aid and paid for his medical care. No chokeholds at all.
@georgetakei Kyle Rittenhouse was the test run. I told everyone this would happen once he walked.
@georgetakei There is a difference between a "restraint" and a potentially LETHAL choke. This guy chose, with the help of others, to go for the one that can kill and did so.

On a positive note, they’re all grifters so the likelihood the criminal sees any of that money is pretty low.

@georgetakei
