I don't get how Harris got 11 million FEWER votes than Biden in #Election2024. It doesn't seem to be misogyny alone, 17% stayed home partly due to #Gaza genocide. She didn't differentiate herself, that she would take a stronger stand. And now millions more will suffer in #Palestine and #Ukraine as well as in the #USA. So short sighted. If she got the same turnout as Biden this WOULD have been a landslide, tRump got 2 million FEWER votes this time.
However this election ends, I will never recover from so many humans voting for the felon who tried to overturn our last election with fake electors, an attack on the capital, and spews grotesque bigotry incessantly while having stolen top secret documents, committed sexual assault, lied about COVID constantly, and has threatened his adversaries with death. So few basic morals in so many.
I have to say, #News agencies in the #USA are pretty terrible at #elections. With over 4 years to prepare since the last close presidential election they did nothing to help clarify their maps to show whether mail in ballots or early votes have been counted, or if overseas are still outstanding, or really anything. It is just red and blue again with % counted nonsense. They really are shameful.
JD Vance thinks it’s patriotic to threaten poll workers for asking citizens to follow electioneering laws.
If you didn't love these #WNBAFinals you don't love #Basketball. Gritty win, 2 great teams.

Stellantis announced that it will lay off 1000+ autoworkers in Michigan.

It has also slow walked the reopening of a plant in Belvidere, IL.

Meanwhile, Stellantis spent $15B on stock buybacks and dividends since 2023 while giving its CEO a 60% raise.

Textbook corporate greed.

Every single time I watch #DemonSlayer episode #SetYourHeartAblaze with #Rengoku I get hit in the gut. So damn beautiful and powerful. May we all strive to be better.

Update. The Journal of Cardiac Failure switched from single-blind to double-blind peer review to increase the number of its women authors. Three years later it reports the results.

(#paywalled)

"The proportion of women first authors increased from 24% in Era 1 to 34% in Era 2 to 39% in Era 3 while the percentage of women authors serving in a senior authorship role remained fairly stable over time around 21-22%."

Astronomers have discovered the telltale signature of a supermassive black hole that recently tore a star apart that came too close. This is known as a tidal disruption event, and it causes a flash of X-ray radiation that's detectable from our space telescopes. The expanding debris cloud from the shredded star has drifted into the path of another star, which is now repeatedly crashing through the cloud every 48 hours, sending out additional flares.

Just 150 billionaire families have poured $1.4 billion into this year's elections.

On average these super-rich families have spent $9.2M in political contributions — just 0.06% of their total wealth.

The equivalent donation for a typical household would be ~$120.

Oligarchy.
