Great! A new round of spam from mastodon.social.

If you are using mastodon.social as your home instance: please consider choosing another one. It is too big and sooner or later we'll have to limit or block it if the problems from there doesn't stop. #mastoadmin

@leah

Good grief.
WTF is going on in there?

@essjay just open registrations and an instance to big to fail (block).

@leah

Yes.
However, if they want that to be their business model, they should have the tools and number of mods / admins to nip this nonsense in the bud.

It keeps happening.
A while ago a thread by an enby person was dog-piled by transphobes.
No prizes for guessing which instance most of them came from.

And Gagron got shirty with me for tagging him about it

@essjay @leah such is the way of the techbro who talks a lot about high and mighty ideals but is ultimately governed by the same growth-at-all-costs mindset as the platforms he purports to want to improve upon. :(
@leah @essjay even worse than "open registration": default server in own "official" app, which directs almost all new registrations to this server m(

@leah I’ll move when Mastodon allows the transfer of EVERYTHING over
@anthonyvardiz this will never happen.
@leah 😞
@anthonyvardiz @leah What to think of the new feature of #Calckey: it should be possible to move (also from Mastodon to a Calckey instance) incl. the contents?
@caos you need the privat key of your Masto Account to do this - so ask the Admin of your Masto instance to hand over this key to you and you will be free to move your content also

@Leah @Anthony :fatpikachu:
@leah @anthonyvardiz maybe not on Mastodon, but calckey supports migrating your followers and posts! (as of the latest beta)

@kainoa Never heard of Calckey until today

What’s its differentiator(s) besides the migration feature?

@anthonyvardiz a lot of things, probably too many to go over in replies 😅 big things are quote posts, reactions, 4000 char limit, threads, and a different ui. The website is here: https://calckey.org , if you scroll to the bottom there's a comparison chart.

@anthonyvardiz @leah Calckey has been working on post migration.
Now is the time to realize:

Any software which does not allow to move your account with CONTENT to an other server is not future poor for the Fedi.

AND

Any software which does not have a permission system which can block content from not excepted connections is not future poor for the Fedi.

@Leah @caos @Anthony :fatpikachu:
@leah @Blobfox might be worth looking into
@leah well im on my single tomato instance c:
@leah Don’t worry I’ll #mute you. There. All good now. 🤔 🤭
@leah Genuine question - do you not think everyone's instance will be used to launch similar attacks in future?
@cymplecy nope, there are a lot of instances with limited registrations. And of course it will happen with other instances too, as it has before. But mastodon.social hase been a special one for a loooong time.
@leah Had my first cryptobot form there. Was confused why I even had a follow reuest until I saw my instance turned those on for anyone from there
