There is a specific cybersecurity company that tries to bribe me with different swag every day on instagram to get pitched, and it’s pretty wild marketing - especially given the terrible swag at RSA this year. Like one day they show a Patagonia bag and the next Yeti mugs, just trying new images until I cave.
@hacks4pancakes Sounds like a firm which might actually pay for endorsement, like an athlete in a beer commercial.
@dsacer I can’t find anything that explains on their site. Just the usual marketing mumbo
@hacks4pancakes If they aren't able to explain what they're selling, it's pretty tough to give a credible endorsement.
@hacks4pancakes The Force is weak with that one.
@hacks4pancakes the terrible culture of sales via bribery gets worse every single day in my inbox.
@thevowel I mean I’ll accept a certain level of sales bribery but it has to be the right bribery. Amazon gift cards are solid

@hacks4pancakes @thevowel I've been brutally honest with some of them.. The old “Look, I’ll listen to your pitch, and I expect to get the cool bribe you're tempting me with, but I'll be up front. There is absolutely no chance you'll get a sale. Zero chance. Still game?”

Surprisingly, a bunch of them say yes.. So I get free stuff for watching a demo of a product I'll never use.. *shrug*

@hacks4pancakes ahh, the social equivalent of MFA spam.

@hacks4pancakes I think I know which vendor you're talking about, and I've been trying to find all the variations of the "kits" they offer as promo swag.

At this point I've only found a couple on their actual website, which makes me wonder if they're just doing lots of marketing variations pushing the same items in different ways each time.

@SPAM yea they make it torally impossible to find out how to actually get them so I won’t bother

@hacks4pancakes I'll bet it's the same one who kept sending me offers on a Yeti cooler just for doing a meeting about our current setup and sales pitch.

Unfortunately for them they were exactly 1 month late as we had just bought a cooler and done our camping the prior month.

@hacks4pancakes
Could it be that they are looking for your interests (vulnerability) to different classes pf swag to use later on to manipulate you?
@ipd @hacks4pancakes
Some swag is better than others. With this knowledge you are in control.
@hacks4pancakes So like a Type 15 shuttlepod?
@hacks4pancakes Oh, that's just stupid. They should use pictures of swords.
@hacks4pancakes the first thing the came to mind - would you, could you for a yeti?
@hacks4pancakes I got offered an indoor fire pit the other week. I feel like I made it.
@hacks4pancakes a certain vendor keeps desperately trying to give me an xbox. Not the right bribe for me but it's very well known around the office that if it was up to me we'd definitely use said vendor so it's a bit sad knowing I could never accept it. Damn professional ethics.
