While covering the Allen, Texas shooting this weekend, Fox had a guest on who joked that Americans should have a 'plan to kill everyone you meet.'

He even said it with a chuckle. We are truly a broken nation. 😢

Fox Guest Jokes Americans Should 'Plan To Kill Everyone You Meet' After Latest Mass Shooting

This is the world Republicans want.

Comic Sands
@georgetakei any country that allows the regular massacre of children has failed and is to be pitied.
@georgetakei Doesn't surprise me. Texas acts like it is it's own country.
@Lilyana @georgetakei And, despite the Texas bravado, it took only one Illinois police officer to take in the 4th of July shooter alive, whereas, 19 Texas cops remained in the hall, while students and teachers were slaughtered!
@georgetakei We all know it wasn't actually a joke at all. Heck, Republicans are the ones always talking about being ready for the next Civil War.
@georgetakei i love playing as The Sniper from Team Fortress 2 :DDD
@georgetakei I don't want that to be true, but I can't see what can be done to turn it around. Any ideas?
@djaii @georgetakei
Gun control, end of the NRA as a lobby, create programs to buy back guns.
@fonecokid @georgetakei yeah, none of that is coming now. We're so utterly fucked. In Canada, people are BUYING more guns now.

@georgetakei While distasteful and ill-advised in this context, it's an allusion to Gen. Mattis' dictum about situational awareness: "Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet."

It's a blunter, more individual version of Teddy Roosevelt's national defense recommendation: "speak softly, and carry a big stick." At least I /think/ that's the point the guest was trying to make.

@fratermus Is there some reason you feel obliged to run interference for this creep?
@aristofontes Is there some reason you feel obliged to willfully misunderstand my post?
@fratermus @georgetakei Teddy’s quote is about backing up words with action, and Mattis only applies to military situations and not classrooms or shopping malls.
@fratermus @georgetakei
Geez... imagine having to be on your guard for every minute of every time that you are out and about in public.
The stress involved could make for hasty and dangerous reactions
@georgetakei Monsters without brain, that repugnant piece of ship and all that give him a voice.

@georgetakei

It isn't even original. It was stolen from Gen MadDog Jim Mattis.

"Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet.’

Like the AR-15 even the platitudes are military.

Kids at the mall are an unacceptable military objective.

@georgetakei He was apparently a reality TV star. Another sign of a broken nation.

@georgetakei i saw in a comment thread on ars technica (on twitter’s failure to deal with the fallout of the shooting) that one commenter knows a coworker who said with full emotional conviction that the moment he held his AR-15 (illegally gotten from across state lines) was right up there with the moment he held his just-born son for the first time.

how is one even supposed to reason with people like that?

@gekitsu @georgetakei You can't reason with someone who is so enamored with his weapon that you know IT will do his "reasoning" for him.
Shit--the more I see stuff like this, the more I'm determined to learn more skills to do work from home. We're all extras in some unnamed FPS game and nobody bothered to tell us about it... til now.
@caffeinatedbookdragon that was strikingly (and gut-sinkingly) well put. the stranglehold gun culture holds on all levels, from gun rights organisations, their propaganda and their paid politicians, down to omnipresent notions about the use of guns for civilians, it’s hard to stay optimistic with regards to a solution of this problem.

@georgetakei I was sitting on my lounge in Australia last night watching Predator movie, which has many scenes involving guns, all I could think about was American gun violence.
Is this what is going to happen when I watch Star Wars or Star Trek now?

The likes of Murdoch, Trump, Cruz, MTG, and Coker should be very proud of themselves.

@georgetakei sadly everyone I meet dies eventually plans or not. To take a life out of turn only reduces our capacity to create order from chaos.
@georgetakei yeah the moral value in america has became very rotten thats for sure, I use to make music for a living and I blame the messages in today's music genres for the moral rot in todays young america
@georgetakei Lately it seems like a lot of Americans do have such a plan, and they're putting it into action.

@georgetakei Now I know why a line from the Cary Grant movie "Father Goose" is resonating with me more and more as a near life-goal: "Several years ago I made peace with the world. Now if the world isn't bright enough to make peace with itself, it's just going to have to get along without me."

I'm digging around for jobs and job skills extra hard tonight. I really would love to know how to work remotely and make sure I'm qualified, because it's only gonna get worse as the 2024 election ramps up later. My state's becoming a free-for-all and folks just shrug and move around like usual.

@georgetakei

A chuckle does not mean he was joking.

It only means he wants you to THINK he was joking.

@georgetakei the naked sociopathy of some in public life never ceases to amaze and horrify me.
@georgetakei
Unfortunately it is something that has been taught in certain branches of the military - my ex told me about that when I was with him. It's unnerving.
@georgetakei
They wear AR-15 lapel pins. They endorse the killings. They mean it. Believe them.
@georgetakei He might be on to something. It's not like we can save Christian Nationalists and their sympathizers.
@georgetakei Sounds like someone doesn't understand when it becomes normalized. When we start hearing shooting, followed by emergency responders. When the aftermath means the period of quiet between more of the same cycle of violence.
@georgetakei We are not condemned, and either are our children.
@georgetakei it's a Civil War and every man scared of something being taken from them, picking up a gun, are their soldiers.
@georgetakei He had better be careful what he asks for.
@georgetakei why would you want to live in a place where you felt like that?
@georgetakei as Trump famously said, “Sh*thole country”. As usual he was projecting.
@georgetakei
One of the things taught in the military was, we were not there to die for our country but to facilitate the enemy to do just that for theirs.
And my XO once told me that I had to start looking at the world through a gun barrel. Somehow, I believe these so-called "observations" somehow got out to general public and have since been perverted to unconscionable actions!
When one spends their entire existence 'walking softly but carrying a big stick', there is bound to be problems.
@georgetakei
The defining characteristic of Conservatism is a lack of #Empathy. They are ALL Sociopaths.
@MugsysRapSheet @georgetakei
This is a common misconception. Empathy is complicated. Most of our emotions are not affected by our conscious thoughts. For example if you fill out a spreadsheet and it shows that the love of your life is bad for you you don’t stop loving them. Empathy is different in that it is tied to the concept of “other”. We can decide who is “other” using our conscious mind and the “others” are not deserving of empathy. This is the reason the Republicans have to keep their base angry, why Dems are “baby eating Satan worshippers”, why they pose an “existential threat to ‘Merica”. Among their group of “NOT the Others “ they are very empathetic. We need to avoid responding to their demonization of us by demonizing them. By demonizing them we adopt the lack of empathy for them that we find so disturbing in them.

@dconklin @georgetakei
You're overthinking this.

A lack of #Empathy is the ONLY way to explain the selfishness of believing one must protect *themselves* vs tolerating the mass-murder of children, or refusing to mask up during a pandemic.

@MugsysRapSheet @georgetakei
It isn’t lack of empathy, it’s lack of empathy for who we have empathy for. Not the same as sociopathic inability to have empathy for anyone.

@dconklin @georgetakei
A reply I gave to another post may frame things better:

"They claim to be "Christians", but their worldview is that of the lions they were fed to."
