One of the things taught in the military was, we were not there to die for our country but to facilitate the enemy to do just that for theirs.
And my XO once told me that I had to start looking at the world through a gun barrel. Somehow, I believe these so-called "observations" somehow got out to general public and have since been perverted to unconscionable actions!
When one spends their entire existence 'walking softly but carrying a big stick', there is bound to be problems.
