With 4 bits, there are 16 combinations, but 0000 is outside of all of them (present), and the two combinations of categories opposite each other (that's 1010 and 0101) are impossible with convex shapes in 2D (...I think? Topology is not intuitive)
That makes 14 regions if we include the region outside of the circles.
That said: nobody claimed that this was a full Venn Diagram!

So it's just circles that are impossible, but ellipses still work (though they don't look quite as elegant here). They only stop working at n=5
