At risk of being the grinch, the party pooper, the sour apple, I just want to I say — I don’t like the White House Correspondents Dinner. Never have. #whcd

I know, it raises money for #journalism scholarships. Good thing to do — other ways to do that — if people really care about doing that.

It’s mainly a night of elbow-rubbing and celebrity mingling and canoodling with people in power whom they should be asking questions, not chuckling over cocktails. 1/3

There was talk during the Trump Administration of ending it or boycotting it. That seems to have ended with Biden, who I hear has good writers and good jokes.

I’m glad they’re having fun but (call me very old school or something) I still think it’s distasteful for journalists to glam up and rub elbows with the powerful.

If I were part of #whca I would buy a plate or donate but no, you wouldn’t catch me at #WHCADinner. And if I were there, I’d be trying to ask questions. 2/3

One more thing on #whcd.

Biden stands for press conferences rarely yet we got a run of scripted jokes tonight. He does well with press conferences, including nearly two hours taking questions 15 months ago; but he prefers soft interviews with celebrities and may set a record for recent history for least frequent press conferences.

The current president may not call reporters “the enemy of the people” but he is avoiding them. They don’t need to be props for his campaign B-roll. 3/3

@algernon I’d call you a Cynic, but in the #ancientgreek context of calling it like you see it in public, which I respect as #superversive 🫡
@paninid Oh, I’ll end up in rags arguing with people in the street yet! #Diogenes

@algernon Diogenes would say that Biden should take a seat in the agora and let someone else speak. And not Kamala, either. Wholesale new slate in a post-pan proactive polycrisis of comedy, performance art, and storytelling in the agora to 5th grade reading level.
