Thinking about the difference between a TV pilot and all the rest of the episodes... the pilot has to set up the engine that the rest will use.

What if the pilot, even a funny one, is not a comedy (in traditional dramatic terms) but instead is more naturally a tragedy establishing the pain or fracture or wound that the rest of the episodes (comedies) work to heal/resolve?

My observation for more than a decade has been that TV episodes expand on pilots. There may even be special episodes to develop separate characters. So the pilot is a welcome mat to the episode rooms. Together, they form a home. 🏠 In that respect, your outline is not objectionable.
@charles_perkins I would think that tragedy would be the subject of a flashback episode that explains why the character (presumably the main character) behaves the way they do or why they are in the situation they found themself in at the start of the series.
