For many older Americans, Fox has been a radicalizing force, leaving many younger folks feeling as if their parents have been stolen from them.

While it is premature to write Fox’s obituary, we must acknowledge that the post-truth era of right-wing, racist grievance we are currently living through is a direct result of Rupert Murdoch’s Fox “News” Channel.

@georgetakei I once saw a woman call another woman a liar, saying she was trying to get attention. I talked to her, saying that was unlikely behavior in a grown up, and she could be hurting the woman by trying to convince people she was a liar with no evidence. She admitted she didn't know, but that the woman's story made her uncomfortable, so she decided it must not be true. I think of her every time I wonder why Republicans blindly follow liars, even when faced with evidence of truth.

@paprikapink @georgetakei I recently did this (at last). My cable company offered a streaming package of 15 select channels, so that's what I went with. Fox is not among them. Any streaming bundle that includes Fox is also paying Fox.

My father, radicalized first by #Rush Limbaugh then by #Fox, recently told me he has switched to #Newsmax
because "they're pretty much in the middle". Holy crap. He's a good man completely eaten up with far-right brainworms.

I’ve lost all of my sibling, or should say, I’ve turned my back on them because I can’t separate their political ideals from our sisterhood. I’m so angry and ashamed of them.

It’s like I told my Democratic mother, it’s a simple test to determine if you are on the right side of things—have my political beliefs killed or threatened others?

@georgetakei “..feeling as if their parents have been stolen from them.” I’ve never summarized it this way, but I can see how a person can feel like this. I’ve been more frustrated with my parents that they can be brainwashed by the crap, and then don’t understand why I don’t understand they are right and I’m wrong. How can every other network report the opposite of Fox, and then I’m at fault because I don’t believe Fox?

One of the main reason, I feel, that so many older & rural people in the country are turned by Fox & other extreme conservative "news" organizations is the freedom tfg gave to Sinclair Broadcasting just after he was foisted upon the country. Now, Sinclair is even larger & planning to change their name. You can read this article from 2017 (below) warning about Sinclair, but right now, they control about 70-some percent of small town & rural TV stations across the country.

Fox also gained a foothold in military organizations & bases, which many veterans & Democratic military personnel hope the Pentagon will pull the plug on Fox. Many of the Jan6 seditionists were military personnel, either active or veteran. All were subjected to the lies & (let's be honest here) brainwashing of Fox.

@georgetakei After watching my grandmother, who I was very close with, fall into the Fox News propaganda machine, I'm so glad my mother kept firm to her progressive beliefs. Losing one of them was difficult enough.

It's heartbreaking
And.....many of these people believe they are Christians 😳

That they are good people & they are doing God's work
Are they?

The Jesus I read about was clearly a revolutionary who cared about the poor, sick & disadvantaged
He cared about those who are different & embraced change
He accepted totally those of us who were not like him & loved them too
He challenged the religious!

Perhaps I've misunderstood?
