Where the fuck did this weird idea come from that we should welcome Nazis into our midst and “debate” them?!

What’s wrong with people who think like this? These are NAZIS, goddammit.

@Green_Footballs Radical Right: "YOU CLEARLY HATE FREE SPEECH!!!"
🤦‍♂️

I wish that was sarcasm, but they're exactly like that *AND* I've found that friends I've known for decades fall or that crap...😳

@I_am_stefan @Green_Footballs

Grumble😠 That annoys me to no end. The first amendment only protects us from censorship by the government. That's it, but just like the second amendment, the conservatives twisted it to suit their purpose.

@I_am_stefan @Green_Footballs Same here. It was a sickening awakening.
@Green_Footballs If by "debate" they mean "punch in the face" then I'm all for it.

@Green_Footballs

They are insane. They want to bambozzle you with bullshit in the hope you will become as confused as them and join their cult.

Remember the first rule of Marxism:

Never join any club that would have you as a member.

[p.s. edit: Somehow the prior line was missing]

@Green_Footballs It's the bullshit "Marketplace of Ideas" concept. No, markets are not the solution to everything. Certainly not ideas.
@mikeg @Green_Footballs I'm a huge fan of marketplaces! I think marketplaces are wonderful, democratic, and efficient! But I also think that someone who comes to your marketplace planning to tip over all the booths and steal the money probably should be driven away by a mob with sticks instead of being allowed to shop there.

@Green_Footballs

They are insane and want to bambozzle others with bullshit in an attempt to get others to join their cult.

@Green_Footballs The debate idea is part and parcel of American media's obsession with "both sides" as a legacy of the Fairness Doctrine.
The right abandoned that idea years ago, and the center and left need to view adherence with some skepticism.
It's a decent idea, but needs some serious consideration - not all opposition to the left is worth giving any air time at all.
@Green_Footballs yep. choosing where to place my attention is a very fundamental right. and none of mine going there.

@Green_Footballs five people debating with a Nazi?

Six Nazis.

@Green_Footballs

To enter into a debate with someone I need to have a certain amount of respect for them and atleast a small amount of understanding around their view, even if I disagree.

Nazi’s want to debate the right for some folk to exist and I neither respect them nor understand that viewpoint.

Even if I thought it was worth it to change one person’s mind, I refuse to debate the right for someone to just live their fucking life!

@Green_Footballs precisely. they're nazis, not a new type of harmless plant. didn't we decide genocide was bad years ago?

@Green_Footballs

It's like when creationists demand that actual scientists "debate" them. When you know your ideas are garbage, you can't do serious research or publications to back it up, your only choice is to go in public and shout as many wrong things as possible. It's the Ben Shapiro method.

Only response to "debate me!" should be:

"No, fuck you. Get a degree, come up with legitimate ideas, research and publish them in a legitimate place, then maybe a serious person will debate you."

@Mxhrad @Green_Footballs Nah, that's not how science communications should work at all. We're all much better off for people who are willing to answer questions coming from ignorance.

Besides, lots of people have those degrees you're asking for and still make silly arguments that are almost just not worth answering at all. (Just one example: Alan Feduccia)

@ech @Green_Footballs

It's not coming from ignorance. It's coming from willfully misleading. They have no interest in learning the truth. Think of antivaxxers, covid deniers, etc. 99% of them have made up their mind and no matter how much data you throw at them, they will ignore it. Don't fall for their nonsense. They have no interest in a real debate.

@Green_Footballs … who the hell stated that about the g*ddamn nazis??????!! If it’s republicans & the trumpism zombies I ain’t surprised, if it was someone else that’s surprising
@Green_Footballs
It's the same mindset that gives us "debates" about global warming.

@Green_Footballs

Debating Nazis is platforming Nazis and amplifying their messaging.

@Npars01 @Green_Footballs howabout punching them? That's still okay, right?

@Jeremyinthebluehouse @Green_Footballs

I recognize the temptation but don’t give into it.

Republicans are deliberately stoking political violence and provocations for violence.

They hope to create enough dysfunction to create support for a narrative of "We need a dictator, so we can quell the plebs causing problems and restore order".

@Jeremyinthebluehouse @Npars01 @Green_Footballs
Lol they already have their dictators.
They already accuse antifa of starting forest fires. Remember the Golden Dawn party in Greece? They had police support and had won parliamentary seats. The reason they were unsuccessful was because the anarchists outnumbered them and would physically prevent them from rallying in public. Violence works. Punch hard.
@Green_Footballs putting faux exasperation to the side for one minute, searching for a solution to the radicalisation of children is worthy of discussion. There are places on the internet where people debate Nazis and anecdotally that throttles the alt right pipeline. That in turn doesn't mean the fediverse has to be one of those places.
@Green_Footballs @SrRochardBunson “Debating” them is exactly how FB, Twitter and everywhere else turned into the hellscapes that they did.
@Green_Footballs
Be like that patriotic Sheriff in Florida, resist the fuckers! Let 'em know they are NOT welcome. (WashPo story)
@Green_Footballs
The flaw of conservatism is that it claims to expand freedom whilst allowing others to oppress.
@Green_Footballs agreed and Carl Popper agrees
@Green_Footballs I'm almost certain that nazis came up with this concept as a way of shifting their comments to being "opinions" to be heard rather than hatred to be silenced/ignored.
@Green_Footballs #PunchANazi; Not just for your grandparents anymore. (Well, mine at least!)
@Green_Footballs Debate implies a form of social equality. They want to infiltrate public discourse with Nazi extremism as ‘equal therefore acceptable’. I always maintain that nobody owes debate time/energy to extremists. They deserve only condemnation.
@Green_Footballs exactly. Their "ideas" aren't debatable, they are abhorrent.
There was a video of a comic talking about people equivocating about punching a nazi and saying we can defeat them in a battle of ideas.
No, punch the nazi. "What's next?" Punching more nazis.
@Green_Footballs
I'm for it if it's Special Prosecutor Jack Smith negotiating with the Nazis about snitching on other Nazi congress members involved in the insurrection. I think MTG and Jim Jordan would sing like songbirds if he put the fear in them. They have weak character.
@Green_Footballs Debating hate (underpinned by violence) gives it credibility. Drive that shit back into the shadows.
@Green_Footballs They really internalized "violence never solves anything!" Bullshit rhetoric.
@Green_Footballs it came from Nazis (and their media)
@Green_Footballs
We just don't welcome or debate Nazis
Know their history They're violent outliers
@Green_Footballs
What must be debated is how nazis are already determining policy, education, healthcare, social media and the reappointment of the enabler president, and how we stop the likes of billionaires giving them oxygen on their platforms, media outlets giving them a voice, and political parties giving them jobs and access to key people.
Oh and whilst we're at it, how the various churches defend and enable their policies.

@Green_Footballs From the Nazis themselves, I think. Before the rise of all these Neo-Nazi and alt -right think tanks I was never interrupted by strangers pressing me for a debate. Only noticed the concern trolls with their endless debating and just asking questions tactics when they started grouping at sites like 4chan.

At this point if someone wants little old nobody me to debate an issue I am inclined to assume Nazi sympathies and block.

@Green_Footballs We had this debate. It was called WWII. We won and the Nazis lost. Now the Nazis get to shut up or be punched.

@Green_Footballs

Actual Nazis?

Or people like me? I got called a Nazi HERE because I *dared* to suggest that it's okay to remain on Twitter for now.

Again, a big ol' excuuuuse me for recognizing that a whole lot of black folks are still doing good things over there despite the dipshit in charge...

@Green_Footballs "Where the fuck did this weird idea come from that we should welcome Nazis into our midst and “debate” them?!"

From Nazis or one of their fellow travellers.

@Green_Footballs It came from Nazis and Nazi sympathisers.
@Green_Footballs The Nazis are the ones who suggested it.
@Green_Footballs We should welcome nazis into our midst and beat the everloving crap out of them. It its never, ever wrong to punch a nazi
@Green_Footballs Well said... +1... they are iconic cancer representing everything that is wrong about humanity to an unstable and lost cohort, and supported by powerful and well-funded shadow groups propping up their BS offensive. IrelandIsFull when it comes to Nazi/Zazi and any other aligned party of evil! We are a free people and shall remain so!
