Jack Dorsey enthusiastically co-signed the deal that betrayed 200 million Twitter users and handed their accounts over to a fucking right wing egomaniacal billionaire. You’ll have to excuse me if I’m not eager to sign up for another one of this dude’s schemes.
@Green_Footballs Charlie— I feel it too—
Whatever else we might say about the working stiffs in this world being bossed around on a recreational social app by a overpaid oligarch makes exactly zero sense
Sayonara, adios, hasta la bye bye
@Green_Footballs
The fact that musk is worse doesn't make dorsey better. He sucked. But twitter may not be manageable and worthwhile. Maybe 1 or the other, but not both.

@dsmdexter @Green_Footballs

It was a rightwingers favoring site pre-Musk. Then it became a white supremacists cesspool.

@dsmdexter @Green_Footballs True. Honestly wondering if Jack was so eager to sell just to look like the good guy by comparison.
@Green_Footballs yeah, I'm good right here.
@LeaBug @Green_Footballs me too. I am reading books again now. Just finished the 1619 project!! I am not going back to addictive social media! This is my only!

@Green_Footballs if you run a public company and someone tenders an offer at 2X your current market cap … it’s almost impossible to turn it down because of shareholder lawsuits.

Disirregardless, Dorsey is bad.

@mattmoehr @Green_Footballs this is the truth. The board is legally required to put the interests of shareholders first. Ahead of the users. Ahead of society at large. It's been tested over and over in court and management knows this. They could have argued that shareholder interests were best served by not accepting the deal but very little chance of that succeeding, and from a financial perspective hindsight says it would have been wrong.
@enmodo @mattmoehr @Green_Footballs Ah. That kind of means he shouldn't have gone public. 😁
@enmodo @mattmoehr @Green_Footballs Right, but Dorsey didn't say, for instance, "as a member of the Board, I feel that this offer is one that best maximizes shareholder value." He said "Elon is the singular solution I trust. I trust his mission to extend the light of consciousness.” At best, that shows staggeringly poor judgment of character.

@arcanesciences @enmodo @Green_Footballs see my previous statements re “Dorsey is bad”.

I don’t understand why people can’t simultaneously believe:

a) It wasn’t Dorsey’s fault that twitter was sold to Musk.

b) Jack Dorsey is a spineless charlatan that was never, and will never be, good for the internet.

I guess a lot of people prefer to see Silicon Valley as a real-world Game of Thrones meets Succession story rather than the mundane expression of capitalism that it is.

@mattmoehr @Green_Footballs I'm so borrowing "disirregardless".

@Green_Footballs I think Jack's as cuckoo as cocoa puffs but Twitter was a publically traded company and Elon memed himself into making an offer twice what it was worth and tried to back out but couldn't

I guess I'm saying fuck em all

@Green_Footballs You’re not missing much. BlueSky is a joke.
@spangborn I haven’t checked it out yet and am curious: Anything more you can say about what makes it a joke?

@bmerberg Invite only at present, the UI looks unfinished.

They needed to hire a UI/UX designer.

Honestly, it looks like a half-assed Twitter clone to me.

@spangborn @bmerberg I know a few who have access to it and they have same opinion as yours: Twitter but a few years ago.

I attached an image of its UI for those who're curious.

@nhan @bmerberg Yep, agree.

The current userbase seems heavily slanted toward web3.0/crypto, which I have little to no interest in.

@nhan @spangborn

I mean, I DO like spaghetti. 😏

@Green_Footballs Suspended me for urging the incoming Biden/Harris administration to not pardon Trump or they'd lose the republic. I also called Orange Mussolini mean things in that fateful tweet. After that it was "talk to the hand" from them.

Then Jack wouldn't let Elon out of his "deal."

Jack was losing $. Elon made him whole and destroyed Twitter for the autocrats the obscenely wealthy seem to prefer vs being ruled over by the likes of us. We take them to court. They take them to dinner.

@Green_Footballs But does he still have a long beard and claim to care?
@Green_Footballs Anxiously waiting (for 5 months and counting now) for the day when I look at the featured posts tab and 80% of the posts aren’t about Twitter.
@Green_Footballs THIS! I tried it out anyway, and it worked and looked terribly.
@Green_Footballs Post Elmo buying Twitter, Dorsey has tried to back off his earlier endorsement. But meanwhile he's been busy F-ing up SQ with crypto/blockchain voodoo. By which I mean $SQ is dow 43% since this date last year. And close to 75% since its peak in Aug 2021.
@Green_Footballs Oh no, what did he do to our so special relationship of « he offered a product and we used it according to his conditions » ? What devious mind would build a start-up just to sell it a few years later to someone offering enough money to make a profit ? Good thing we have been awakened to that very unique sort of total depravation ; we are uniquely gifted with the capacity to refuse a new product on the basis that we don’t need it. A once-per-existence capacity, I dare say.
@Green_Footballs This exactly. Why trade one cryptobro troll king for another.
@Green_Footballs Totally. He was showing that he had no idea how to properly run a social media site already.

@Green_Footballs Just seen quotes about him regarding how he plans to introduce microbilling for 'likes' via cryptos.

Well that says it all, doesn't it?

@Green_Footballs if you add the fact a lot of his promoters are blue checks, it makes me doubt even more!
@Green_Footballs I’ve been over sky for a few weeks. There seems to be good intentions but it’s early days. I don’t know too much about what you mentioned but I did see someone call him out about this over there and his reply seemed to be from what I can recall, mainly, that he didn’t sell anyone out and that the business was sold for one reason or another. Someone said he is focused a lot on Nostr and not Sky.
@Green_Footballs man, Elon really lives rent free in yall heads huh? Must suck to be you

@ClayForeman @Green_Footballs

Yep, I've Elonphantitis. But, to be fair, it has been caused by the fact that everytime I go on that site I get his name, antics and products appearing in my feed despite me blocking his name, antics and products. Actually, I should check if the name block is still active. The account block is active.

@Green_Footballs That learning progress comes ~15 years later than needed, but, well, better late than never. ;)
@Green_Footballs selling out one of the most important informational channels to a self-centred billionaire might have been the most irresponsible decision of the decade.
@Green_Footballs
Wasn't the whole Dorsey family all traitors anyway?
@Green_Footballs isn't it a lot more complicated though when you're a public company and your board are tryna push you out?

@Green_Footballs how do we know it was enthusiastic?

Also, who was the other signer? Might wanna watch out for them as well

@Green_Footballs — yes, and it’s an open protocol but you have to be invited to use it?
@Green_Footballs it’s like the ex you don’t take back.
@Green_Footballs going by actual observed public behavior... Every billionaire is either an asshole or you just know that they are an asshole.. yet. You will have to wait for them to open their mouth .. lol
@Green_Footballs
Dorsey is the front man for Elmo.
Fuck him.
@Green_Footballs
Outta the loop here.
Context?
@Green_Footballs Co-signed. Why sign up for the experience of watching yet another clueless rich mediocre white dude run a business (or democracy, for that matter) into the ground with temper tantrums and vindictiveness? Have we not yet had enough of that? It has to be Stockholm syndrome at this point.
@Highlandista @Green_Footballs Jack isn’t in charge of Bluesky. He has almost nothing to do with it anymore. Their CEO is a woman named Jay Graber. And since it’s all open source and decentralized (like Mastodon) nobody is going to run anything into the ground.
@Green_Footballs When looking at the people who invested in Elon's Twitter destruction, it's hard not to think that destroying Twitter was the point. Dorsey has a Twitter rival in the works, and seeing his new venture's competitor fall apart has to be part of his business plan.
@Green_Footballs I do have a tough time hanging that on him personally. Basically Capitalism sucks and Twitter nailed Elon's balls to the wall because his offer was good for shareholders. Elon made his own bed by shooting his mouth off and was made to lay in it.
@Green_Footballs Is Jack Dorsey still involved with BlueSky? I thought he was more involved with Nostr.
@Green_Footballs indeed, it’s also reallly funny that his buddy bought twitter and then he launches a twitter clone

@Green_Footballs

Jack Dorsey is also responsible for the two sets of community standards that so clearly existed over at Birdchan. I don't even care what his new concept *is.* I'm not interested.

@Green_Footballs Agree! There will be no Dominion lawsuit saving US democracy, no altruistic Ghandi walking to defend his people…. There will be greed. Front and center. The purely materialistic search for pleasure. The #tfg phenomenon. No one will be swooping in to “save the day”. So yes, not keen on jumping on the Jack bandwagon. And Canada 🇨🇦 is being infected. #CdnMedia aka #Postmedia oh look, lint. Time for the silent majority to speak up.

@Green_Footballs In what way did he betray anyone? Was there ever a promise to keep twitter as it was in 2006? No. Was there a promise to never sell twitter to anyone? No.

As far as business decisions go, this was the right one. They got an offer that was way beyond what twitter was worth at the time. Would you be able to say no if you would be offered billions of $$$? Not to mention that twitter was financially struggling for a long time and they needed an exit strategy.
