đŸ„„ Please tell me if #Mastodon's little yellow star symbol for "Favorite" is NOT like the heart symbol on other social media. I've been liberally using the star to indicate that I "like" a toot, and noticing that very few others are doing the same.
Are #pachyderm people just less effusive in their praise of things they like, or am I that big of an outlier? đŸ„„

@JStatePost It is a private like...only the author sees it. The boost on Masto is more like the "like" on Twitter--it puts the post in your timeline for your followers to see.

So star to give a "nice post!" to the author and boost to publicly say "hey guys, read this!".

And boost liberally, because you are the "algorithm" that adds to your followers' feeds.

@JStatePost I think it is, although, a reminder that "Likes" on the other site were actually Favourites before, and used a yellow star symbol. I never really 'liked' that change, since it was too Facebook-esque, so, in reality, we're at an earlier, more friendly time (in my opinion), here, as a result.
@wpgne I did NOT know that, MJ. Thank YOU for the heads-up. đŸ„„
Twitter’s “Favorite” Button Is Gone. You’ll Like What’s Replacing It.

You can finally stop pretending every tweet is your favorite.

@wpgne Great article, MJ. Thank YOU. đŸ„„
@JStatePost no problem. There are some valid reasons why the change was made.
@JStatePost or not fond of yellow stars?
@JStatePost it's like a regular "like," it just lets the recipient know you liked it. i'm pretty sure you can only see likes from people on the same instance as you when you're looking at somebody else's toots so that may be why it seems small
