@tzimmer_history “Much of the moral panic over ‘cancel culture’ – which animated Musk to buy Twitter in the first place – is a reaction to precisely this: Traditionally marginalized groups have gained enough influence and have acquired the technological means to affect the political debate.”
This is the point I suspect careful histories will make. (At least, if we can shape a future that contains careful histories.)
"I wrote about Musk’s destruction of the virtual public square"
You should have written about his destruction of *a* virtual public square.
Twitter is a large and well known instance of those, but really not the only one.
@tzimmer_history Twitter has become an anti-democratic, antisocial medium even before Musk bought it with the support of Mr Bone Saw's accomplices.
Algorithm-controlled suppression of free speech & critics of wealthy autocrats/ dicktators, who could buy or otherwise succeed at silencing freedom & justified controversy.
Let Twitter finally die - humanity deserves it, for the better!
Already slowly dying Twitter will not recover from Musk's intrusion.
