So, this happened:

(available for preorder TODAY and we'd really appreciate if you buy soon: www.acityonmars.com)

@ZachWeinersmith Congrats to you and Kelly! (Is she on Mastodon?)
@debivort Nope! But she says "I wish I were on Mastodon just to say hi to him."
@ZachWeinersmith aw, that's super kind. Please tell her "Hello" from me!
@ZachWeinersmith Woah, congratulations on years of work coming to fruition! Will we get cut chapters as a bonus somewhere on the web? Because I'm sure there were many cut chapters 😂
@lana Yes, likely at least 2. Kelly is working on one as an academic pub, and we also have another that may end up as a long piece in a policy magazine. Both are sociological/historiographical.
@ZachWeinersmith Aaaaah!! I need to put this in my brain!
Congrats you two, please give my best to Kelly!
@ZachWeinersmith Do you have a non-soulless-corp recommendation for pre-order in Canada?
@wrkyle Local bookstore or library is usually the way to go!
@ZachWeinersmith Is it OK for a science-loving kid? Or put another way, does the book have more explicit sex and death than a PG-13 movie?
@nic I would say the two sections you'd want to read in advance are the opening on space sex (which is jokey and not grotesque anywhere) and the brief discussion of what happened at the V-2 factory at Nordhausen. Nothing gratuitous, but the former might be too much for your taste as a parent and the latter might be pretty upsetting if they're not familiar with Nazi labor camps.
@ZachWeinersmith Whoa, cool!
@Chrishallbeck Took FOREVER. Happy to send you a copy :D
@ZachWeinersmith It will look good on my shelf next to Soonish! 😊😊😊
@ZachWeinersmith Placed my preoder! Thanks for the handy link in my RSS feed! :)
As an aside, I hadn't heard of bookshop.org before, so I'm glad to try it out and support my local bookstore!

@ZachWeinersmith

If only you had already done this book, except about filling Earth's orbit with thousands and thousands of low-orbit communication satellites.

@ZachWeinersmith Endorsed by Andy Weir! 💪
Congrats and best of luck.
@ZachWeinersmith
Preordered from Apple Books. Can't wait!
@ZachWeinersmith I'm super keen, but I'm going to wait for it to come out and get stocked locally. Amazon wants to charge me AUD$73 (USD$49) including shipping to Australia.
@tj We will have it out through a UK publisher as well and they may be able to get it to you at a non-crazy price. Waiting is a good idea.
@ZachWeinersmith woo! (and hyperlink isn’t clickable).

@ZachWeinersmith So as someone who never has time to read anymore, a couple of questions about the audiobook before I preorder:

1. How many funky awesome drawings that I don't want to miss will I be missing in the audiobook form, and should I just suck it up and save the dead tree for summer vacation 2024?

2. Who's going to narrate the audiobook version? You guys again? (it's not listed yet)

@mark 1) A lot, but the book will still make plenty of sense! 2) Don't know yet but we are TRYING for a geek celebrity :D
@ZachWeinersmith any chance of opening the preorders up internationally? Looks amazing!
@amino We're working on it! UK and Spain soon for sure.
@ZachWeinersmith if you spent 5 years researching it, surely you can spend another hand delivering it round the world like a manic Santa?

@ZachWeinersmith Strongly considering picking this up (I enjoyed the previous books I've gotten from you), though, weirdly, almost to the exclusion of the 'on mars' bit.

But it looks like that's more of a title than a 'limiting to this specific thing', which, good! I want to read some in depth analysis of space-based manufacturing (among other things, and possible gravity as it relates to reproductive health, etc).

@Oggie Yes, we really struggled for a good title. This one is more meant to be provocative.
