I hate peddling my own wares but I'm a stubborn fool who decided to make my career in the arts because I probably wasn't good for much else. Unfortunately, this makes wares-peddling kind of unavoidable. So, if you like abandoned places, I have signed copies of my first book, "Abandoned America: The Age of Consequences" on sale with a free 5x7 print. There are 30-odd chapters of photos of some of my favorite abandoned places in it, so, idk, if that's your thing here you go

Well, folks, I got an absolute TON of book orders - far, far more than I expected - and am feeling very thankful for all of you who ordered them, boosted this, and/or are just generally supportive and kind. There were so many orders I had to order more books from my publisher and get more shipping boxes too. Let none say that the Fediverse community doesn't support the arts. I really appreciate it and hope you all enjoy your books. Thank you so much fedi friends ❀️

Finally got the extra books and packing supplies and spent the day boxing all the book orders for shipment on Monday. I have literally never sold so many books at once - 47! I really appreciate the support, hope you folks all enjoy them, and I am very tired 😴

Seriously kind of stunned that I got the response I did. When I post about selling books 10 sales is usually a pretty high number. The Fediverse is a force to be reckoned with.

@AbandonedAmerica Looking forward to the book! Wonderful photography :)
@AbandonedAmerica so delighted to hear this! You deserve all the sales.
@IPEdmonton thank you! It is the most books I have ever had to pack at once, I think I have the packing down to a science with all that practice

@AbandonedAmerica β€œThe Fediverse is a force to be reckoned with.”

…and we’re just getting started. πŸ’ͺ🏼

@jeff that's my hope as well. And even if it doesn't ever rival, say, Facebook, I still like it the best.

@Deus press F to pay respects for my lost Saturday afternoon πŸ˜„
@AbandonedAmerica very cool, congrats. I ran out of cash before I was able to get an order in, glad you still sold a bunch!
@zombierottenmcdonald thanks! Art books aren't in my budget at the moment either unfortunately but fingers are crossed for both of us down the road
@AbandonedAmerica My book just arrived today and it's gorgeous! 😍 Thanks for the print, too! (Is there any way to tell where it's from? I didn't see it on my first go-through of the book.) I'm really looking forward to reading the stories behind these amazing pics. Thanks again!
@WhatTheChel thank you so much! That makes me so happy! The photo is either a greenhouse at Pennhurst State School and Hospital or the Palace Theatre in Bridgeport. Both are likely going to be in my next book 😊
@AbandonedAmerica Thank you! That answers my question! I plan to frame it and figured I should have an answer when someone asks about it. 😁 Good luck with your next book!
@WhatTheChel thanks so much! Which one did you get?
@AbandonedAmerica I got the greenhouse! I don't know what the other photo looks like, but I love this. And now I'm (impatiently) awaiting your next book so I can see the other one, too! πŸ˜‚
@WhatTheChel @AbandonedAmerica well, I would've shared the other, but I got the greenhouse too.🀭
@shadyspotlight @WhatTheChel well, the theater photo isn't on my website but the good news is Pennhurst is if you want to see more of it. The write-up is still pretty light, something I hope to fix soon https://www.abandonedamerica.us/pennhurst-state-school-and-hospital
The Abandoned Pennhurst State School: Not a Monster

Pennhurst State School was legendary for the substandard living conditions and care the developmentally disabled recieved there. Find out what it looked like after it closed. By Matthew Christopher of Abandoned America.

@AbandonedAmerica @shadyspotlight The gift that keeps on giving! Mil gracias!
@WhatTheChel @shadyspotlight well, I was going to show you the cool 360 degree pano I did of the interior but the hosting site doesn't seem to be working so I guess that'll have to wait for the gallery update. Here it is in case your luck is better than mine https://kuula.co/post/7lfc6

@AbandonedAmerica @WhatTheChel just seems to be black for me (with the AA watermark at the bottom).
@shadyspotlight @WhatTheChel yeah. Same here. That's a frustrating thing I'll have to figure out tomorrow if I remember
@AbandonedAmerica I see the Abandoned America logo (blue star with rust around it?) in a circle that turns as I swipe. So at least I know it's your page.
@WhatTheChel it's frustrating because this *should* be working just fine and you can see it in the thumbnail for the site, even. Tomorrow's a packed day but I want to figure this one out.
@AbandonedAmerica It is weird that the thumbnail renders but doesn't show up on the actual page. Don't overwork yourself tomorrow. We can be patient. Sort of. (I'm kidding... πŸ˜‚)
@WhatTheChel even weirder that the rest of the panos I have hosted on this site seem to work okay? Maybe it works on desktop. I'll have to check
@shadyspotlight @AbandonedAmerica LOL! I do appreciate the sentiment! πŸ˜‚
@WhatTheChel @AbandonedAmerica i really feel you should just leave it on the table for a few years...
@peteo Oh, the book will absolutely be on my table!

@AbandonedAmerica

I'm sure your publisher is happy, too.

@GustavinoBevilacqua that is an unfortunate side effect, yes πŸ˜„
@AbandonedAmerica I will be ordering my copy this week!! Thank you! :)
@healthiswealth thanks so much! πŸ₯°
@AbandonedAmerica You're very welcome! Thanks for all of your research and hard work to produce these amazing photos. I'd buy the signed copy directly but 1) I can't wait for the possible 2-3 week delay (my impatience!) and 2) I'm UK based at the moment so can't afford for it to possible go missing at customs when it eventually arrives here. I should be getting my copy Wednesday :)
@healthiswealth I hope you enjoy it! And I totally get that. The idea of paying 1-2x the cost of the book itself just in shipping and then possibly losing it in customs is really problematic
@AbandonedAmerica
The books are amazing. They still hold prime real estate on my coffee table.
@kims that's such an honor! I always think it's amazing that a book I made would be a part of someone else's home. I'll never quite get over it πŸ₯°
@AbandonedAmerica I'm having trouble finding a Canadian distributor, but this sounds like you're doing fulfillment yourself?? Can I get you to use USPS (*not* UPS or FedEx) to ship to Canada? And if so, where should I order?

@athompso Hi! If you email me the address I can check, my email is [email protected]

Based on prior experience I'm going to guess somewhere around $60 USD. It is absolutely outlandish. I hate to suggest it but Amazon does carry it https://www.amazon.ca/Abandoned-America-consequences-Matthew-Christopher/dp/2361950944/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3FPYOJBTWS8IK&keywords=abandoned+america&qid=1681683071&sprefix=abandoned+america%2Caps%2C87&sr=8-1

Amazon.ca

@AbandonedAmerica Blech. However, I held my nose and ordered it through them.
I had searched earlier and couldn't find it, unsure why.

BTW, since you've previously mentioned financial difficulties, please allow me to recommend spending $7 on @mwl 's Cash Flow for Creators ( https://mwl.io/nonfiction/biz-craft#c4c ). At that price, I'm 100% positive it'll generate a positive return on investment for you! (Disclaimer: my wife, a professional accountant, was one of the pre-print reviewers.)

@athompso @mwl thanks for the recommendation!
