In Texas, the Republicans won't rest until enough Democratic voters are disqualified from voting, or their votes nullified, to ensure absolute control for Republicans for decades to come.

This is happening nationwide where Republicans control things. It's a national issue.

Yet Big Journalism, apart from sporadic coverage that consistently misses the forest for the trees, continues to miss the emergency represented by that this accelerating attack on democracy.

@dangillmor They are missing it on purpose. They are part of the fascism push.
@dangillmor So much of the coverage is portrayed as work of separate extreme factions instead of recognizing the national plan and connections. So much of the reaction is “they’re crazy” or “right-wing wackos” instead of recognition that what’s happening is the use of power, the quest for more power, and the loss of power among others. Independents are a bigger and bigger part of voters but they lack organized power, and I’ve seen zero reporting evaluating that.
@melaniesill @dangillmor over half of "independents" are republicans deluding themselves and thinking they can avoid accountability by calling themselves independent when they've voted republican consistently.
@qualityhammer @dangillmor Perhaps, but (at least in my state) there’s little understanding of what’s driving the shift. Unaffiliated are largest group here now. Democrats have seen larger erosion in share.
@dangillmor
These actions are based on the obviously corrupt SCOTUS. In the past they would have been blocked by a SCOTUS that had some regard for democracy, but not anymore.

@dangillmor Hi Dan,

Thanks for all the important info you share.

I am still learning the Mastodon / Fediverse, yet I think your posting’s visibility will be increased by adding hashtags. Something like #politics #Politics #fascism

Good luck!

@dangillmor Corporate 'journalism' makes more money when the stories are about catastrophe, and bonus if the catastrophe is ever-more shocking. There is no incentive to do journalism when the money can be made without investing in 'human resources.' We will wait forever if we are waitin for #corporate to intervene in successful #capitalism
@dangillmor It’s disgusting how big media is covering the NRA convention like it’s the Oscars in a land where people are afraid to walk out the door and get shot. Yet not a word about our CURRENT PRESIDENT’S rousing and loving trip to Ireland. Big media is just as much the enemy as MAGA.
@dangillmor I was at an undergraduate research at the Capitol in Austin this past week. Nary a congress(wo)man or journalist was present. There was, however, a sign at the main entrance directing permitless gun carriers to an alternative entrance. This place is nuts.
@dangillmor Mainstream media afraid of GOP. This same stuff is happening in Virginia, slowed slightly by slim D majority in Senate.
@dangillmor very dangerous developments…

@dangillmor

Texas will no longer counted during federal elections?
#texas

@dangillmor When can we start calling the U.S. an authoritarian country? When do we stop calling it a representative democracy?
@kaydenpat @dangillmor after 2024 when votes are overridden so they can install their demi-god.
@dangillmor When money is made on you not seeing the forest you won't notice the trees... 🤑
@dangillmor Big journalism AND the federal government.
@dangillmor //"big journalism" is owned by Republicans.
@dangillmor the media is controlled by the oligarchs so we can't count on the press.
