Why #Anki kinda stinks for language learning. I don't know the content maker well at all, but his list is everything I found frustrating and ineffective about the app/program. It really derailed my novice Spanish studies. I don't recommend it anymore, _especially_ to folks with #adhd issues. He's inspiring me to get back to my old notebook methods, and I want to check out his routines further as well.

Why I Don't Use Anki to Learn Vocabulary (And Why You Shouldn't Either)

YouTube
The section "Reviewing old cards can become a chore" describes well why I got so frustrated with Anki that I wrote my own flashcard program for private use. The answer to that for me was to simply not have timestamps at all and instead treat intervals as a quantity of reviews. When you run out of reviews, then you can add new cards. It's probably still not the most effective for language learning, but at least this way is more fun for me.

@madewokherd If it's way more fun, you'll do it more, which to me translates to effectiveness! :)

(Sorry I didn't see this comment earlier!)

@hollie I haven't heard of this method, but I tried Duolingo for years. The more I used it and the more I read up on it, the less useful I realized it was. It was especially bad when they shut down the community forums, where most of my learning occurred.
@hollie interesting. I'm currently feeling a lot of benefit using #anki for learning French. I'm only really using it for nouns currently though
@Letterstomychildren For me there was benefit at the start, but the benefits went down rapidly as the complexity of the language learning improved. That was just my experience though, I know that some folks have felt it was great for them all the way through. If you think it's helping, then it is! :) I think for me it wasn't helping and I was banging my head against it rather than just articulate the problem to myself, and it was helpful to have this guy articulate the problem.
@hollie yes I can imagine this will be the case. Still very early in language learning with it but can see how it won't be a great help for much complexity. This seems to be the same for most learning with #anki, as the answers always seem to need to be fairly simple
