stop maintaining software
@retr0id Okay this but about video games and completely unironic
@alfredohno @retr0id you're hereby banned from minecraft>1.0
@Riedler @retr0id THANK YOU
Back to b1.2b I go babyyy

@alfredohno @retr0id lmao

but I believe b1.2b > 1.0

@Riedler @retr0id b is for the beta, any of the b versions come before 1.0
@retr0id I don't get it. What a strange message.
@heydaave
It's a re-hash of the "stop doing math" meme, but for software.
@retr0id
@retr0id I hope this is meant literally, because if so, I honestly agree. I'm so sick of seeing the system requirements of software go up while having the same or fewer features

@retr0id All we need is stable software that doesn't need constant updates, except to fix bugs or security holes.

We could've stopped a long time ago, but here we are still today, and we have to keep upgrading. In some ways, they feel more like downgrades instead.

@retr0id me when i read about an emacs speedup that was disabled by default because it would ruin 30 years of accreted config files in their main userbase
@retr0id Everyone who loves and lives #KISS principle should inevitably hate #CCSS and demand only #FLOSS!

dangerous security exploit found four years after software release
🀝 wanting to make your software better after it's "done"
maintaining software is actually a pretty good idea i think
@shitpostalotl A common pattern I see is version 1.0 of a software being completely free from security bugs, with the bugs being added in future revisions.
@retr0id I love this meme format. They're often so creative!
@retr0id I can literally no longer tell if anything's satire anymore

@retr0id

You kids.

We did our updates Every. Damned. Time. We. Watched. A. Video.

Also, the downloads were at 14.4kbps, uphill both ways, in the snow.

@retr0id @steve 14.4kbps? Wow you are a young one. I recall 1200 baud and when 4800 came out that was like OMG - earth shattering. πŸ˜‰

@L4rryC4rson @retr0id

I started with a 300 baud manual modem from an ad in Byte magazine. I remember feeling so delighted when I finally got a 1200 that allowed a reasonable reading speed!

@retr0id programmers are some of the most idiotic and useleas people on this planet, other than cops/lawyers/judges/politicians. If it works, stop trying to fix it and forcing people to "upgrade"!
@retr0id this has such excellent @dasharez0ne energy
@retr0id software update is a conspiracy by the ISPs to sell more internet bandwidth
@retr0id Wow! What a great plan! You should also stop bringing your car in for recalls - when the manufacturer says the car can be stolen because of a fault in the electronic entry system - that's just a waste of time - let them steal it. And if the steering wheel can come off causing you to crash and die, just roll the dice and take your chances. And those recalls for wheels falling off while driving down the road - bah wheels are overrated. Sounds like you're on to something here let me know how it's working out for you in a year, if your identity hasn't been stolen, your money is still yours and you haven't had a horrific car crash but maybe you'll get lucky and the car will be stolen first.
@retr0id thank you, windows component-based servicing /s
