@tzimmer_history It feels like the Republican Party has been in the hands of anti-democracy extremists for as long as I can remember... which is a long time. The only difference is they're bolder about it now.
The first president I recall from my childhood is the Republican who had microphones planted in Democratic campaign headquarters to undermine an election, half a century ago. And it seems like the GOP have been the kings of gerrymandering and voter suppression since at least the 1970s.
About a decade ago, I finally accepted that seeking to undermine democracy is just the nature of the Republican Party, and has been for generations. They know their ideas can't win many elections on their merits, so voters are a threat to them.
