Oh yes! For those not in the know, the protagonist ("Principal Boy") is usually a male character played by a female. The matriarchal comic relief "Dame", a female character, is always a man in outrageous drag. There's often also plenty of innuendo and double-entendres - and, to really make US Conservatives blow their tops, the shows are targeted at families with (young) children.
Meanwhile, around a third of Shakespeare's plays feature crossdressing (usually F-M), and of course in his time, women were prohibited from acting, so ALL female roles were portrayed by men.
