It’s astonishing to me that these two are the top contenders for the GOP nomination and that they have such ardent followers. A Tale of Two Sh*tties

Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida went to Iowa last week to test the waters for his presidential run. He touted his defeat of vaccine mandates, his war against “woke” culture and “critical race theory,” and his campaign to silence LGBTQ+ discussions in schools. Troublingly, he got the biggest response for his blatant mistreatment of migrants: “I’m sick of elites imposing their vision on open borders on you and on us with them not having to face the consequences of it. So we thought it was worth it to send 50 illegals to Martha’s Vineyard,” DeSantis said, the crowd of some 1,000 people leaping to its feet to cheer.

@jaykuo The astonishing thing to me is that people think there still is a "Grand Old Party" (a term nobody uses, but should). "GOP" is gone. "Republican" is gone, except to the media which needs them to exist so the myth of bothsidesism can continue. But these, er, buttheads are not GOP. They're not Republican. They're fascists. And if there is a party orbiting around them, it should be called the Fascist party.

No. This is who the GOP is; this is who the Republican party is. They've been telling us this for years now. Their members believe them and apparently support it.

It's past time we believe them.

The GOP IS fascist.

The Republican party IS fascist.

We can't change that.

This should no longer astonish us.

It should motivate us.

@jaykuo apparently DeSantis just revoked the liquor license of a hotel that booked a drag party 3 months ago. I worked the party business on weekends for 10 years. Drag entertainment was occasional, regardless of what the party was (weddings, birthdays, etc)

(I think this was also the point in 2007 when "everyone" was pretty sure Hillary had the nomination sewn up.)

@jaykuo Not astonishing at all if you just look back on all their “best” since their first worst, Reagan. It’s been a downhill slide since then, with each candidate getting dumber and dumber till you end up with these two latest “dumbest of all” choices. Now imagine how stupid their voters are to think these stooges are the smartest.
