#retrocomputing weekend project. How do I math?

@PointyEndUp

As a rule, I would let this slide πŸ˜‰

@PointyEndUp It's just like the one my Dad gave me for my 18th birthday, even the case. I used it a year or two, then HP dropped the price of the HP45 calculator and I bought one.

Haven't used either or my CRC Handbook in decades.

@PointyEndUp
I still have one.
@PointyEndUp
My old man gave me the same brand of slide rule, but with fewer scales.

@nyrath
That one is cool! I've been keeping my eyes open for the source related "pocket computers" from the Apollo era.
@PointyEndUp
Now we know where the TRAVELLER book cover style came from @nyrath
@darrelplant @PointyEndUp
By Strephon's name, you're right! I didn't notice that
@PointyEndUp @nyrath
Hadn’t crossed my mind until I posted that photo, myself

@PointyEndUp Maybe you also need to scale it up? πŸ€”πŸ˜

(I'll have to see if I have photos of my Pickett slide rules, too. Too lazy to open the boxes. πŸ˜‡)

@VintageProject
Have you ever heard of the Curta?

Seems to be a slide rule minus the slide and the rule.😁

Attached: 3 images A thing that's new to me, even though it's been around since 1947 is the #Curta. It's some sort of manual calculator much like a slide rule and was invented in #Liechtenstein. These can be seen at the enter.ch media and computer museum in #Switzerland. #retrocomputing

@RetroWizzard I have, indeed.
It's an engineering marvel and deeply embedded in a bitter story around Curt Herzstark, an Austrian inventor. Not only did he have to deal with 1930s Germany and Soviet occupation, but he was also cheated out of his rights and money several times, if I remember correctly.

@PointyEndUp

@RetroWizzard You might want to check YouTube for a corresponding story by Adam Savage. He was gifted a 3D-printed, upscaled version of a Curta a while back and explains its workings there. @PointyEndUp
