Last night, me and my best friend watched 'Stunned', a short story on #ABC730 about how #pigs in #Australia are sent to gas chambers to be killed. They are then cut up and turned into food that normal people eat every single day. The scenes were horrific, and I applaud #abcAustralia for showing the footage before most kids bed time.

My best friend, who has been awakened to all the cruelty and suffering that is done to these pigs and other defenseless animals long before me, watched it with a numb sensation, whereas I imagine most people (that simply don't know that this is what happens every single day), may find the footage shocking. I couldn't help but sob and whimper, ashamed of myself for being a part of this system for so long.

I invite you all to watch it:

The blurb says it well:

"Australians are a nation of meat lovers, but many of us never stop to think about how the animals we eat live or die. Tonight, we bring you never before seen footage that shows the method used to slaughter the vast majority of pigs in Australia.

It's hard to watch but also hard to ignore. As Lauren Day reports, none of what you're about to see is illegal except for the actions of those who filmed it and a warning, it contains footage some viewers may find confronting."

Thank you to ABC, #AnimalsAustralia, and #FarmTransparencyProject, for showing us this footage.

Animal welfare activists take on the pork industry

Australians are a nation of meat lovers, but many of us never stop to think about how the animals we eat live or die. Tonight, we bring you never before seen footage that shows the method used to slaughter the vast majority of pigs in Australia.

"Pigs can get very panicked and they're not being mistreated but some are just nervy pigs."

No shit, how the hell would you feel if you knew you were about to be killed in a gas chamber. 🤬😤 This is the reason why #vegans get so annoyed with some people, with stupid comments like this.

The reason why gas chambers are used is of course because it's cheaper. Make no mistake, it has nothing to do with the thoughts or feelings of the pig in question.

Small-scale pig farmers call for end of carbon dioxide stunning

With a centralisation of pig abattoirs owned by large multinationals, many small-scale pig farmers say they have limited choices on where to send their pigs for slaughter.
