The history of book bans—and their changing targets—in the U.S.

@shoq @elaterite @grammargirl The NG link & Brooklyn Library links are better. At least they are openly accessible. This uniteagainstbookbans.org site is a disaster of a #hypocrisy. It uses #siteground to push an anti-robot agenda that blocks human Tor users. So not boosting. The NG article still has issues though- popup blocks you after reading the 1st par unless you give an email. /cc @jargoggles

In April 2022, Brooklyn Public Library joined those fighting for the rights of teens nationwide to read what they like, discover themselves, and form their own opinions. Inspired by the American Library Association's Freedom to Read Statement, Books Unbanned is a response to an increasingly coordinated and effective effort to remove books from library shelves.

@grammargirl @elaterite Perhaps its time to rediscover private lending libraries.

They will have to pry my student's copies of Heartstopper from my cold, dead hands. Just sayin. #heartstopper #LGBTQ #consent
@grammargirl @elaterite I don't get this at all. How come the number isn't always zero? - I thought there was some "first amendment" thingy? - or is this not taken seriously because it doesn't involve guns?
