Time for a proper #Introduction:

I'm a #healthcare policy analyst, advocate and blogger who focuses primarily on the #ACA (#AffordableCareAct), but I also write about #Medicaid, #CHIP and a lot of other U.S. healthcare system stuff. Last year I also gained some attention for #COVID19 data analysis.

During election season I also raise money online for #Democratic candidates.

@charlesgaba Charles is one of the best follows around. The work he does is invaluable. Great guy also.
@charlesgaba Are you out of the webdev business, then?
@danielschultz Mostly. My wife has taken over most of the business; I'm still involved for some server-side stuff + app development but that's about it.
@charlesgaba
Glad to see you here!
@charlesgaba hello hello! been following you forever and happy to continue doing so!
@charlesgaba A Grade-A data scientist.
@charlesgaba Yep, Charles is easily one of the best social media follows I have. Shares interesting data and analysis on important topics.
@charlesgaba Hey, Charles, good to find on the Big M. Appreciate your work and ,of course, gave you a follow.
@megn thanks! Good to see you!
@charlesgaba Hi...this is maybe the fourth place I follow you from.(Maybe third...) We go back to DK, though.

@charlesgaba

Thanks for your thread about political fund raising groups on Twitter today. https://x.com/charles_gaba/status/1770530950683697546?s=20

I've a question. Is ActBlue a fund raising platform only for Dem candidates? Or, is there an ActRed, and ActClimateCrisis, etc. too?

Charles Gaba ( ✡️, deal with it) (@charles_gaba) on X

🧵 People have asked me why I started an organized project to raise money *directly* for Democratic candidates up & down the ballot when there's already so many other organizations out there doing this. There's a couple of reasons. 1/

X (formerly Twitter)

@tutormentor1 ActBlue exclusively platforms Democrats and (in cases of nonpartisan offices) candidates who affirm that they’re “Dem-leaning” as well as self-described progressive organizations.

Obviously there’s no guarantee that they’re not lying about their political leanings, but…

@tutormentor1 Republicans have attempted to mimic ActBlue with a platform called WinRed, but they’ve run into a lot of grifting issues of their own.

@charlesgaba

Thanks. I've aggregated a list of Chicago volunteer-based tutor/mentor programs since 1994 and have consistently tried to draw attention, volunteers & donors to each program.

In 2004-2009 we built an on-line platform to help people find individual programs in specific areas.

The next goal was to add a fund-raising capacity, that would work similar to ActBlue.

Changes in 2011 cut off my access to funds and I never reached this goal.

@charlesgaba

This article shows my vision of adding a fund raising capacity to the tutor/mentor program locator we built in 2008. https://mappingforjustice.blogspot.com/2019/07/a-bridge-too-far-my-vision-since-1993.html

I share it because while I no longer have the capacity to build this, a similar service is needed in every city with pockets of poverty and where youth serving programs are needed, but struggle for attention and funding.

Other might build this, based on my lessons.

This is one of many maps you'll find on this blog and on the Tutor/Mentor Blog which zoom into a Chicago neighborhood and tell a story of...

@charlesgaba I worked at Elevance. They have "discoverable" calls (their words) about the drive to eliminate medical ID cards. "Anthem Link" plans are designed to keep you from actual care by placing a chatbot between you and a doctor.
