Hi, new to Mastodon, have had my ham license since 2006 but have never operated. Did purchase an Elecraft K2/10 in 2011 with the intention of learning CW and operating but never did. Hoping to get an antenna up soon and try some digital modes while learning CW. My day job is writing software for industrial control systems. Other interests are #bicycle touring, which might tie in with future #pota activations.

@VE1KM Nice to see another operator considering adding ham radio operating to their bicycle touring adventures. Been doing it for several years.
@N4JAW Thanks for the encouragement, may have some questions for you when I get to that stage.

Welcome, @VE1KM, I hope you'll like it here!

Excellent timing for your #hamradio hibernation wakeup: The golden years of good shortwave propagation in the current sunspot cycle have just started!

If you happen to want to learn #MorseCode NOW: A group has just formed here to do it together, see #CW100days. I think you can still catch up in a few days of 2 x 30 minutes per day. They say they use "Koch method", which I recommend highly - an excellent idea if they all did, a bit dubious that's so.

@dj3ei Thanks for the encouragement and the invitation to #CW100days
@VE1KM @dj3ei how does it work with the group and where can it be found?
@hamradioom
It can be found via that hashtag #CW100days.

#cw100days is about learning #MorseCode from scratch within 100 days. The original post that got it all started is https://mastodon.radio/@F1RUM/110043610611137675 According to it, participants use the Koch method. I.e., nothing but speed 12 wpm = 60 cpm with no additional spacing (also called 12/12 speed) from beginning to end. Add a single character at a time to the practice set when the previous are copied 90%. 100 days should be ample for all common characters. But not everybody uses Koch 🤷‍♂️. @KC1PYT
