This will be pretty interesting if it ends up being a real thing and not just a concept!

The Framework Laptop 16 promises the ‘holy grail’ of upgradable graphics

The new Framework Laptop 16 is “delivering on the holy grail for gamers, creators and others who need power, with modular upgradable graphics,” the company promised at GDC 2023.

@thelinuxEXP Watched their Live event yesterday and was very impressed.
I’m pretty sure it will be a real thing, since generally Framework seems to be very conservative with what they announce, so if they do, it would surprise me to not see it happen.
@thelinuxEXP Also have you heard that they gave their 13” variant new 13th Gen Intel and - more excitingly - AMD mainboards?
@julian Yeah, I really like the idea behind this thing!

@thelinuxEXP The only reason I haven't picked up a Framework laptop yet is that there's no support for Thunderbold4/USB4 as of yet.

Otherwise, I think the Framework concept is really great, but my future setup should and will be built around TB4/USB4: laptop - dock - eGPU - monitor - NAS - printer - external drives. Then hopefully I'll finally have a tidy workspace again, not like now, crammed with workstation, desktop PC and various ThinkPads and monitors...

Framework Laptops now have 4 Thunderbolt 4 ports

With official Thunderbolt 4 certification, the Framework Laptop has the most Thunderbolt ports on the market!

@Apan @thelinuxEXP Oha... This is new for me, because I have not read out so when configuring... Anyway, thank you very much for this info!
@thelinuxEXP honestly, the idea of a repairable gaming laptop both makes me laugh, and makes me excited since people would be able to buy one of these machines and keep them running for many years past when other gaming laptops break. That, in my opinion, sounds like the kind of thing to make the world a better place to live.
@fluffy_fox Oh Yeah. I really hope the idea catches on, and other manufacturers see that this is a really good way to ensure customer retention and to get some good will.
@thelinuxEXP yeah, I think with the option of replaceable GPU modules for this laptop other companies will start to copy what framework is working on here. I mean, what gamer doesn't want to be able to switch GPUs in their laptop like they already do in their desktop? Plus with the option of a case for the GPU modules, that will open the market to crypto miners hopefully using GPUs that would be heading to the landfill instead of buying out all new ones again.
@thelinuxEXP
Yeah i have high hopes for this
@thelinuxEXP I was watching the announcement yesterday and my jaw dropped. I want to believe this will be possible but I can’t help the felling “I will believe it when I see it”. That said I will be in line to buy one 😉
@thelinuxEXP I still want an arm-based framework! Imagine the beauty of having a laptop with amazing battery life that is also repairable!
@Rob_J @thelinuxEXP
Wait until Qualcomm makes a competent Laptop-focused SoC with compatibility with DDR5 (NOT LPDDR5) RAM
@thelinuxEXP So exciting I'm jumping in my seat 🤣
