@larsmb I literally don't know, I had traveled to India in January and was sick for weeks upon my return. But I never had a positive test.

@pjakobs @larsmb PCR: do you even? 😎

It’s still free here in my state (but not the neighbouring state) and it takes just 6 hours to get a result. With no “maybe no” like RATs.

@larsmb If only you had asked me this just three weeks ago. 😢
@zicon @larsmb same! 4 weeks ago.
@hadarbatjoyce @zicon @larsmb I tested positive a few days after giving my vote here. 🤪
@larsmb I'm not aware of any, but according to the antibodies test, I had it at least twice...
@larsmb I am, the to best of my knowledge, still covid free
@larsmb I test myself at least twice a week for work. Usually another time prior to getting together with friends. So far, always negative. It's possible I got it before rapid tests were widely available, although that was the year of staying in and not getting sick.
Happy to be lucky so far!
@colo_lee Shout out for diligently testing before meeting people!
I didn't even dare ask, I didn't think anyone outside my very close bubble still did that.

@larsmb It's so much nicer to take our masks down, hug each other, laugh and share air. Without worrying ...

(Edit: And I really don't want the interruption to life and work from getting sick.)

@colo_lee I still worry a little (even the good tests aren't perfect), but it's the best we can do right now.
@larsmb Sure, there's still some risk. But, at least twice, we've had friends bow out when they tested positive. And since i self-test 2+x a week, I feel pretty safe about it. Even if I'm infected, I'm most likely not contagious (yet) when I get that neg result.

@larsmb @colo_lee

Here everyone is tested. AirBnB visitors, friends who come in and eat - everyone. We caught already two positive cases that way which both likely would have gotten us infected...

@larsmb
I don't know If I was infected or not
@olifantenbaer
@larsmb thanks to vaccines and always masking indoors except at my house (and dentist appointments), I’ve managed to avoid it (as far as I know). My wife’s immune system was destroyed by chemo treatment for cancer years ago so we’re being very cautious.
@larsmb It has been in the household, where I did not show symptoms and still tested negative throughout. So I'd suspect "not infected yet" is rather optimistic, but still the official stat.
@larsmb I had to travel on a plane for family emergency, I was just about the only person masked. I tested every day while there and was positive 4 days later. Wasn’t very sick, sore throat and tired. Had to stay longer. Sucked, but grateful I didn’t give to my sick family member, however I will always be auntie covid to my nieces, lol.
@BduzBoop I traveled by plane once since COVID (to disappear in the Scottish swamp for two weeks), thankfully the FFP3 mask held.
Good luck to you!
@larsmb I haven’t had it and neither has anybody in my family
@larsmb Wow. I'm quite surprised about 48% not catching it as the figure is for England is that 70% have! Its a good sample size too.
@gruff I'm pretty sure Mastodon is a biased sample.
Which admittedly makes me feel rather better about this platform.

@larsmb One confirmed infection, about 15 months ago, through work.

One suspected infection just as the virus had started spreading around the world and we didn't really have access to any tests.

@larsmb I could have said that I've been Covid-free until now, but my partner has it and I'm starting to show symptoms, although I tested negative a few hours ago.

My partner got it from her sister, who refuses to get vaccinated or to mask.

@bodhipaksa That sucks 🙁 I've got the privilege and luck of not having such people in my life.
A speedy recovery then!
@larsmb truly unknown. Never had a positive test but did have a bad case of strep throat (positive test) last summer.
@larsmb
That 48% not infected seems statistically unlikely.
@boxofrain You're assuming Mastodon (and the people who've seen it reboosted get l starting from my own network) are representative of the public at large.
I'd say this is a rather biased sample of more privileged folks - resources, information, ability to distance, ...
So I'm not sure the result is unlikely given who responded.

@larsmb
Perhaps I should have said that there must be some selection effect.

People I know socially and through work I’d say it is well over 70%.

Which isn’t far off the ONS stats that over 80% of people in the UK have antibodies.

But I take your point on distancing.

@larsmb
I either haven't gotten it or I did a couple of months before it was made public.
@larsmb
My whole family got it, and I was in close proximity to them the whole time.
I got nothing.
A: I'm one of the people who do not get it
B: My tests were all wrong (PCR and RAT) and I got a super super mild reaction and didn't notice.
C: I miraculously avoided every speck of covid in our house.

@larsmb In fact, despite normally getting colds & flu at least once/year went 2 years without, then finally got a mild cold earlier this year.

Had to visit a friend in hospital & wore N95, but have been lax about hand washing since finding out fomites aren't a significant covid transmission route. 5 rapid tests and 2 PCRs over 5 days to confirm it wasn't covid. (and wasterwater monitoring indicated community covid levels were low at the time)

@larsmb I've been exposed to it in my household at least twice, once pre and once post vaccination. Both times my wife was quite ill (though less so the second time, post vaccination) but I've never shown any symptoms. I would say I'm no more or less unhealthy than your average middle-aged man, but in this one respect I think I lucked out genetically.
@somcak @larsmb I am afraid to jinx it, but so far I think my mother has managed to avoid it. She washes her hands a lot and still masks up whenever she is in public though.

@larsmb I had a weird something in March 2020 that messed up my heart for more than a year afterwards. No test—they were restricted to people who’d traveled to China—but given that it resolved immediately after getting my first covid vaccination…

I do NOT want it again.

@larsmb I know SO many people who've been ultra-cautious for the past three years and not caught it, only to catch it early this year. There's def a big spike that's not being reported.
@larsmb I voted no not yet, but I’m not sure. I was sick for a few days when tests weren’t available, later tested negative. I’ve tried to be careful.
@larsmb Still haven't had it. Probably the vaxxing.
@larsmb I’ve never had Covid, but I have the luxury of being retired and an introvert. I’ve literally never stopped isolating.

@larsmb

I started feeling sick one the day before I was due to get my fourth jab 🙂.

At first I didn't think it might be COVID. I thought It is just flu. When the fever subsided I went for a check and I tested still positive.

Luckily enough nobody else around me got infected from me, and my illness was not severe at all: just a little bit of fever for a couple of days.

@larsmb One pre-vaccine infection early pandemic that hospitalized me for a month, one post-vaccine infection that gave me a bad cold.
@larsmb My husband hasn’t had it.
@larsmb Had colds throughout the pandemic but never tested positive for them despite multiple testings so who knows?
@larsmb I think I’m at 5 shots now? They worked so far.
@larsmb
Way too old to believe it, but no problem yet. But I had an awful cold in November pre-Covid.

@larsmb stayed without 'rona by upgrading to a full-face mask with N100/KN100/P3R-D filter attached to it.

@kkarhan That is awesome! I'm considering to go elastomere half-mask, but have had good luck with the FFP3 3M and admit that going beyond that in public feels weird.
But then, if I'm an aging goth in a dystopia, might as well embrace the dystopia goth look ...

@larsmb personally, I don't give a f**k about looks.

I "prefer to look weird than die from a preventable cause" and see this just as selfevidential as should be the use of condoms, or the use of sanitization, gloves and proper hygiene protocol in medical facilities.

Cuz noone will pay me for the avoidable permanent unemployability if not permanent disability that #LongCovid would likely cause.

@kkarhan 💯
If only it was so self-evident. The pandemic has driven home insights into humans as a collective that I now can't stop seeing in so many areas ...

@larsmb it doesn't surprise me that the masses are irrationally bigotted #wankers, but what really shocked me was the fact that these people were listened to and that existing protocols and regulations made specifically for this scenario were tossed out the window.

Governments "let it rip" because it ain't imminently lethal enough like Ebola...

And that'll make it worse in the future as the unwillingness to curb upon it makes it impossible in the future...

@larsmb I mean, who else but #Taiwan did a consolidated effort with #transparency to the public?

@kkarhan Same for climate collapse, smoking, leaded fuel, lead paint, sugar, guns, speed limits, ... (Some of these may be regional and a few have been overcome or at least mitigated since.)
But then, some people still act as if STIs were not a thing too.

Over all, 3 out of 10, would not recommend human rationality as a blueprint for AI

@larsmb kinda depends...

Someshit is just evil: [leaded paint & fuel] and other stuff can be regulated by pricing [driving fast = having to pay for more fuel] and others are just #LackOfAccountability and #LackOfConsequences when the #state or rather #cops do it [guns].

Personally, I do think that the state and individual should be equal in arms as a deterrence against tyranny.

@larsmb

Humans ain't rational at all and I just wished for a energy-self sufficient cabin with fast fiber internet in the woods and do something like herding ostriches and doing IT remotely for a living.

@kkarhan @larsmb if the only punishment is pricing, it's for rich people.
@larsmb I picked it up while in LDN for meetings and am still dealing with the effects over a month later :(
@Agracey Meh 🙁 I admit I have Opinions™️ on the negligent lack of safety measures many companies demonstrate while preaching employee well-being and inclusion of marginalized groups.
I'm also not sure that makes business sense. But that's just idle musing on my part.
I hope you get well fully and soon! All the best.

@larsmb Man, it's so hard to know! My kid tested positive (faintly) on a rapid test, but I never did, and my wife didn't test positive even on repeated PCR. Everyone had some kind of mild respiratory thing, but it could have been a cold.

Exposed? Almost certainly. Infected? Who the heck knows.

@larsmb I’ve had it twice (once pre-vaccine, once after). Neither my wife nor son has ever had symptoms or tested positive for it, including during and after my cases. They are the only people in my extended family that I know of that haven’t had it.
@larsmb I should add, "as far as I know."
