@david @darren @HistoPol LOL. And the instances have commies, anarchists, kinksters, and revolutionary lefties.

I can’t imagine a harder sell to that crowd that doesn’t bring a revolution with it.

Plus the hidden power of the Fediverse, it’s algorithm-less. I can see the texture of that when I switch from borgsite to Fediverse. The borgsite feels like a tube of toothpaste being slowly pushed at me, where the Fediverse points out where the pantry is, where the toothpaste is kept.

Love the way you put it! :)

Getting back to point "Don’t discount the feedback from assimilation", I think we should see this from a more positive and different angle:

People who have never left their #BorgSites (love that, too), will suddenly become aware that the (unquestionably, socially and mentally) sickening characteristics of #Algorithm sites are not the only way to live....

..It could also be that #FB (in particular) will have to pull out off the #ActivityPub protocol, as too many #Metas might chant for #AbolishTheAlgorithm. ;)

Would be nice.

So the question is how to be prepared for the #CultureWars.

From may point of view, the key strategy will be not to be swamped in the first wave.

A different idea to do this could also be to limit accession of the #Metas to the #Fediverse by some thousands a day. What do you think?

@HistoPol I think perhaps you are projecting a bit and underestimating the value that the #algorithm brings to people who prefer their news feeds more curated than firehose.

Keep in mind, it’s no secret to people that there are alternatives. Even just #Facebook and #Twitter organize content in very different ways, and everyone is aware of that. They choose the one they prefer even knowing there are alternatives.

I get that you and many do prefer the chronological algorithm of #Mastodon and that’s certainly valid. It doesn’t diminish that, though, to caution that such a strategy frustrates so many who want different out of their social media.

It’s important to remember the diversity of preference out there.
