I love the passion that I see around here for #Progressive causes, but I'd like to gently remind everyone to #RememberTheIndividual

Example:

#BanCars is a great idea: for abled-bodied people who live in areas with good #PublicTransit & good weather.

For many of us living with disabilities in places that get A LOT of snow with shitty public transit, the idea can feel #ableist

Is there a more #inclusive witty hashtag about fixing #PublicTransportation?

@RamenCatholic

I was having an argument with someone about this, including the #elderly and their handicaps, here on #Mastodon awhile ago:

@HistoPol thank you for sharing that link, that was an in-depth conversation. I enjoyed reading it.

@RamenCatholic

Very welcome. πŸ˜€

I think your point of view is being largely ignored by the many (younger and healthy, #green-oriented) #urbanites who do not know how hard it is for many to just make it to the grocery store on the corner.

And even if you can still walk, your mental or #HeartCondition can still make even that a challenge and a considerable risk.

And these numbers will be rising for demographic and #LongCovid reasons.

#Inclusion

@HistoPol I've heard it said that (some) able-bodied people are "scared" of people with disabilities because it reminds them of their own fragility.

Anyone can become disabled at any time - it can be hiding in our bodies, due to an accident, or whatnot.

And that terrifies some people, so they shove their heads in the sand. "Can't happen to me!"
