My 80+ parents have both caught covid. Looks like my dad is going to the hospital. He can't stand up, having trouble breathing, THE COUGH, fever, weak, dizzy, exhausted...

I only know because I called them as I usually do every week.

Thisis the second time as they caught it almost three years to the day, in March of 2020, when my son came home from his honeymoon in Brisbane. My mum's cough never entirely went away.

They've been very careful since, not leaving the house more than 2-3 times a month and wearing N95s (although I am fairly certain they were fakes). But their neighbour was very ill and my mum took her to the hospital where she tested positive on the second. Two days later my parents started having symptoms.

They tested positive but didn't let me know. 🤬

Too late for Paxlovid?

They are in Ottawa and I want so much to go take care of them. I  would wear my respirator and use a massive air purifier And I'd be okay, right?  But mum won't hear of it.

My aunt and I are on the ready anyway.

I am not telling you this for sympathy.  I don't want your thought and prayers.

I just want to remind you all to respirator up. Keep your vax up to date and breathe clean air.

Please. Stay safe, all costs.

@Typomum Not sure if you were asking (wondering) whether it’s too late for Paxlovid, or if you were making a quip. Anyway, sorry if my reply comes off as unsolicited advice:

I believe one should begin their Paxlovid regimen within the first 5 days of infection. I can only assume that the “first 5 days” means the first 5 days one has symptoms. It might not be too late for your parents to start.

Solidarity. I’ll continue wearing my N95!

Thank you Rachel. Not at all unsolicited.

This would be day five of symptom onset today... 🤞

@Typomum Ooh, that’s good news! I hope that, in Ottawa, a medical professional is able to prescribe it ASAP. It’s very easy to get here in NYC, but I believe we’re unique in that way. Good luck 🤞🏼
