For 3 consecutive years, #COVID-19 has been the top cause of death in the line of duty for police officers. But the NYPD wants to criminalize wearing a mask anyway.

Covid was top line-of-duty death for US police for third year running in 2022

Report shows pace has slowed, however, with 70 law enforcement deaths recorded in the line of duty

@luckytran New York does have a anti-mask law in the books that dates back to the mid 19th century so its basically already there and it's likely to go back in effect once the NY state of emergency ends.

New York's Governor Hands Down A Mask Mandate While The State's Anti-Mask Law Remains On The Books

The spread of the coronavirus throughout the nation is turning some old laws into new ridiculousness. One of the hardest hit areas in the US is New York, which has nearly 30% of the nation’s …

@luckytran NY should make changes to the law to create exceptions to medical situations such as being sick or having to go to a doctor or a hospital but I can't see it sadly.
@luckytran Terrible policy. Let citizens make their decisions for health and safety.
@luckytran At some point you just have to watch them walk off the cliff when they're willing to shoot you for trying to save them.

@luckytran

Line of Duty death means something specific to police. Their surviving family is taken care of financially for at least another generation, and they get a hero's funeral.

Their position on masks has been sickening, no pun intended, since March 2020.

@luckytran back on the Bird, we used to call something like this #pairedtexts

@luckytran There is a zero chance I go into a business without a mask..still.

The more localities fight this fight, the more I order online.

Local businesses will suffer.

@luckytran Cops are more likely to kill you than to save your life. One way or another.
@luckytran which speaks to who the police union really represents. Hint: not police officers
@luckytran Huh?!? How dare we stay healthy and ensure future generations are able to strive. Apparently, the powers that be at @NYPD all have long Covid…I wonder if they’re able to smell what stinks?
@luckytran I'm all about masking in public, so I read the same articles. I'm unclear how you interpreted "urging business owners to make shoppers remove their face masks and flash their features before being let in" as "criminalize."
@richardgunther @luckytran It says "wants to," which isn't too crazy an assumption when you're starting with police telling shop owners to tell customers to do something.

@luckytran

“Working on the front lines made some face-to-face contact unavoidable…” No, police in my state absolutely refused to wear masks. They got in people’s faces and yelled at them in the middle of a pandemic. They didn’t GAF how many deaths they caused by forcing people into close contact with their uncovered faces. They fought against letting people out of jails that were death traps. Their deaths are the consequences of their own actions. There will be no justice for the people and families devastated by their refusal to protect people by using a simple precautions.

Anything blocking mask use is shortsighted AF. Covid-19 is still here killing, injuring, and mutating.

@luckytran And the cops will charge you with assault if you cough on them.
@luckytran spreading hyperbole doesn’t help our cause either. It shows we have a lack of literacy. They desire they had was to take it off momentarily when entering or whatever. Not “banning” them. 🙄
@luckytran property and commerce over life, all day every day
@luckytran as long as they keep dying faster than they’re replenished I don’t care what they do
@luckytran as someone who wears an N95 in all public sources, this is a threat to my bodily autonomy and privacy. I hope I still have those rights for now.
@luckytran the police reject candidates who have too much education
@luckytran so, the criminals want to criminalize people for trying to be safe. Sounds on-brand. 🤦‍♀️
@luckytran Another thing to love about Eric Adams.
