Today is the 204 year anniversary of the "Civilization Fund Act," which paid white missionaries to partner with the federal govt to force Native Americans to convert to Christianity or die.

At its peak 357 such schools kidnapped Indigenous kids & abused & tortured them to death.

The right wing extremist push to break down church state separation is not new, it's a revival of the atrocities of yesteryear.

This is the sort of history Govs. DeSantis and Abbott would banish from classrooms.

It's okay for nonwhite children to have lived through such atrocities, but we can't upset the tender feelings of white kids.

Of course, even they are fair game when the gunman shows up at the school.

@QasimRashid It’s this wholesale child abuse & cultural destruction that white supremacists & MAGAt cult members are paranoid about suppressing.

The truth of history has to be told.

@QasimRashid I’ve been reading a book called The Swerve, about “how the world became modern.”

Anyway, there’s a “fun” couple of pages about how early Christians were forcing Jews out of their homes and demanding cities adopt their religion as they turned their eyes away from all the progress pagan scholars/ mathmaticians/scientists were making.

As I was reading that it was, like, “Huh, so not much has changed…”

@QasimRashid pretty sure it happened up here in Canada as well, the map is not finished and they have found over 1100 children's bodies where the schools were up in Canada...
@QasimRashid seems like human beings are not humane. Similar practices in Hawaii. I believe the root of the problem is believing “we” are better than “them.” Religions have members believe the changes are necessary.
@QasimRashid 😭🤮🤬 We must not allow religious extremism of ANY KIND to overrun our nation ever again. Fear of the “other” leads to hate, bigotry & violence.
@QasimRashid You mean - attempted Indigenous GENOCIDE. Call it what it is.
@QasimRashid
Opprobrious
@QasimRashid Same in Canada. Check out the book “A Canadian Shame: The Indian Act and Residential Schools” by Darren Grimes.

@QasimRashid Q: Was that act ever repealed and did anyone ever apologized for it / planned reparations for it?

If not, why?
