@mmccue
Bravo, Mike. This is wonderful.
@jeffjarvis Thanks Jeff. Means a lot coming from you.

@mmccue Welcome, and props for the well-written intro paragraph

“Magazine app Flipboard is joining the Fediverse — the group of interconnected servers powering a range of open source, decentralized applications, including the newly popular Twitter alternative Mastodon.”

@slothrop Yes I think @Sarahp's write up perfectly captures the fediverse and all that is happening with activtypub while making it all easy to understand for people who've never heard of these things.
@mmccue thank you for your investment on the Fediverse. It'll bear fruits! #WellDone ✅️
@jt_rebelo Thanks for the kind words! Excited to become a part of this movement.
@mmccue
I'm still of two minds about corps making their own instances. Though as long as they moderate, play nice with everyone else, and don't try and squeeze out the independent servers, it seems mostly a positive.
@Tourma I agree with you, Dawn. I think of it as a privilege to be federated, not a right and so instances like ours need to earn that privilege every day.
@mmccue Oh give it time. Eventually the VCs and angels will find a way to ruin it and wall up the Fediverse like everything else.
@brianstorms I will work hard to prevent that from happening.
@mmccue Uh, your 'consent' is lost and broken ;)

@pyperkub @mmccue Think the issue is the link redirects to the Yahoo cookies consent page, and the link preview shown here is pointing there instead of to the techcrunch URL. If you click the link itself it opens, but clicking the preview tries to load the consent page with an invalid session ID (since its whatever ID the Mastodon server got back when it tried to preview the site).

Not sure if that's a Mastodon issue or one with the preview data served from Techcrunch!

@krnlg @pyperkub yeah, that sounds right. early days still.

@krnlg @mmccue Yeah, the upper link works, but the link preview is screwy! dare I say...

... yahoo! ? ;)

@mmccue Wow! This is fantastic news
@mmccue I hope letting us verify our Flipboard profiles in our Mastodon accounts is in the works! 😏 (nowhere to add a rel=me link on our FB profiles right now)
@noah I was just talking about that with @greg this morning. We definitely need to do this.
@mmccue Wow, it really is happening. In a way, I'm glad it happened now when the tech is mature and it's not the early days.
@fourjuaneight It's just so cool to see and be a part of this revolution. What's that old saying? There's nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come.
@mmccue looks cool! I went to check it out but it asked me to log in to my instance using a built-in webview (or maybe a native login UI). The only sure way for users to be sure an app can’t snoop their passwords is to use Safari View Controller, like you do for your YouTube login. Would you consider making this security fix, please?
