THEY’RE FUCKING DEAD

THEY’RE FUCKING DEAD

THEY’RE FUCKING DEAD

THEY’RE FUCKING DEAD

THEY’RE FUCKING DEAD

THEY’RE FUCKING DEAD

This is legit the first thing I’ve had on Mastodon that’s gone viral.

So hey, if you’re here, go donate to trans advocacy groups. Trans folks have the longest road to go down when it comes to finding their true selves, as well as experiencing some of the worst prejudice of the LGBTQ community in recent years;they need our love and support.

@KN3RDS thanks for promoting stuff like this, it's *such* a big deal to see people stand up for trans people, it is desperately needed right now ♥️
@anizocani absolutely! Now of all times. It is my belief that trans folks have the farthest journey to travel on the way to their true selves, and they need all the help & protection they can get on that journey.
@KN3RDS That, or they have become primary caregivers to people with long COVID, or to dependents who's primary caregiver died from is is incapacitated by COVID. Yep. "If only we knew what giant life / lifestyle altering event had happened in this country to drastically change how people could/would function, gosh-golly!"
@megueyb yeah, I spent many years trying to give newspapers the benefit of the doubt, but after the pandemic they just became ridiculously class-based. And not our class.
@KN3RDS @megueyb you are absolutely correct.

@megueyb @KN3RDS

Or retired early. Many Boomers who were planning on continuing working, changed their minds as we kept hearing how ok it is to sacrifice the older, infirm, and immune compromised for the sake of (a) productivity for business and (b) enjoying themselves for the apparent majority of younger folks ... who haven't figured out yet that they too will get old, if they're lucky
....

@DeborahForPlus @KN3RDS Yep! And another massive thing: folks who just realized they have ONE life, and maybe the point is not to work as hard as you can to profit somebody else?
@DeborahForPlus @megueyb @KN3RDS This is my story. I'm a low-income boomer who intended to work til age 70 for the max SS payout, but when covid hit, it quickly became apparent that my big-box employer wouldn't discommode any customer just to keep an employee safe. And since I bailed, I **still** don't see employers offering real incentives to potential workers; they'd rather whine about nobody wants to work anymore.
@KN3RDS the sad part of all this is we are screaming into a void of asshole non maskers and idjuts. Here we just have ourselves coming to terms we are the enlightened and those people aren't here to communicate with. Which I appreciate! I do love the Cat and Dog pics, And normalcy of this social delivery system. 😊
@KN3RDS I remember reading an article from before the vaccines were out (fall 2020-ish?) based on data from insurance companies (for, say, long-term disability insurance claims), and their back-of-the-napkin figure for long Covid sufferers out of the work force (so not counting dead and not counting elderly, most of whom died), was 2 million. I'm surprised it's as small as 3 million here, 2+ years later.

@swampudlian Yeah, similarly I remember reading this MIT article back in 2020 and it has remained eerily prescient.

https://www.technologyreview.com/2020/03/17/905264/coronavirus-pandemic-social-distancing-18-months/amp/

We’re not going back to normal

Social distancing is here to stay for much more than a few weeks. It will upend our way of life, in some ways forever.

MIT Technology Review

@swampudlian @KN3RDS

The vaccines work and prevent long covid.

@KN3RDS they went to go live on a farm with a nice elderly couple where they can run and play in the sun all day
@RedFaster right, the rainbow bridge
@KN3RDS Seattle Times is asking the big questions these days. Where DO we go?
@KN3RDS Or suffering Long COVID and disabled, but yeah. A LOT of death.
@KN3RDS yes. Every single industry is understaffed and most of the staff that shows up is not the same caliber. Tons of institutional knowledge has been lost. People are still trying, but simply cannot replace those that are forever gone. Agree competely.

@Ornery @KN3RDS some of the better NHL players that have caught COVID 3x or more and publicly released that info have fallen off a cliff.

Exhibit A: Technically should be in his prime until 31yo.

@Ornery @KN3RDS exhibit B

He has admitted long COVID.

@KN3RDS also 2million boomers retired early
@smileodonicthys @KN3RDS
Many retired involuntarily. And over 50 means you’re career is over.
@KN3RDS we have severely undercounted the number of people who died from covid. I know of at least three people who died from covid who were not counted as a covid death. One was a healthy 20 yo who died from a blood clot and others who died immediately after having "recovered" from covid.
@Phangurl @KN3RDS for a while at my company we were getting intranet remembrances for at least one to two people a week dying but mysteriously none of them had Covid.

@KN3RDS @lpsrocks Dead, long covid and got out if they were able. At least that’s what happened here in the UK. Lots of people suffering with long covid and some have retired early.

Those who’s deaths have been registered (a legal requirement here) are sadly no longer part of the count.

@KN3RDS They left out the part where the employers surveyed were not paying a living wage and were unwilling to raise their minimums. But what can you expect from a corporate reporter?

@MHowell yeah, I find it ruefully entertaining that the entire article itself is (A) stats-driven based on stats derived from only upper-class reporting agencies and (B) is literally sourced from Bloomberg.

But hey, data objectivity and etc.

@KN3RDS Dead, disabled, or they were Boomers who aged out of the workforce. I mean, it's no mystery where the workers went. We have a whole Census Department that has those numbers. You don't have to go all stupid "nobody wants to work anymore" to know what happened to all the dead, disabled, or retired workers.

@badtux @KN3RDS

1/3erd left cause they Didn’t like masking or vaccines. 1/3rd because they felt they werent doing enough about covid.

Today’s quote of the day is from @badtux “It’s no mystery where the workers went.”
@KN3RDS This was the number in May of 2022:
@MugsysRapSheet @KN3RDS Around 10.3 million people in the United States died from all causes between the beginning of January 2020 and January 28, 2023. Over 1.1 million of those deaths were with confirmed or presumed COVID-19.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/1113051/number-reported-deaths-from-covid-pneumonia-and-flu-us/
COVID-19, pneumonia, and influenza deaths reported U.S. 2023 | Statista

From January 2020 to August 2023, there were over 1.1 million deaths in the U.S. due to COVID-19 as well as 1.1 million deaths due to pneumonia.

Statista
Millions of workers are still missing after COVID. Where did they go?

The Seattle Times
@KN3RDS Dead, long covid, left work to be a full-time caregiver, early retirement....

@KN3RDS

childcare because grandma died

@KN3RDS Exactly the kind of dopey, golly-gee-willikers purposeful ignorance local papers are known for. And part of why nobody under 60 reads them.
@KN3RDS Maybe it was the Rapture? I guess we’ll never know.
@ColesStreetPothole @KN3RDS
But … the Evangelicals are still here after The Rapture?
@KN3RDS to be fair most economists are notoriously super dumb

@KN3RDS Hey, come on now, they're not all dead.

Some of us are disabled.

@KN3RDS Over a million people dead in this country from COVID and people still dying and economists are scratching their heads? 🤔
@annietime well look, you can lead a horse to water…
