We made a new thing that's launching today!

It's called Weather Machine, and it's a unified API for weather data. (This is the same system that powers Hello Weather, but now it's available for everyone.)

Say hello to Weather Machine

An all new universal API adapter for the world’s best forecasts.

Hello Weather
This has been in the works for a long time. Massive shout out to @trevorturk who did 95% of the hard work on this project!
@jonasdowney great work! and love the design (as always)
@jonasdowney This makes so much sense! Nice service. Also, can’t wait for the Hello Weather TestFlight 😇

@jonasdowney This is awesome!

Hello Weather is my go-to app for weather forecasts—has been for a long time. Looking forward to the new beta!

@jonasdowney very exciting! Keeping my eyes peeled for TestFlight stuff. 😊
@jonasdowney this is way, way too good to be true. From convenience to providers to pricing. Please confirm it’s true (:
@bardi it's all definitely true! We're not totally sure if we have the pricing right, so that might evolve a bit. But otherwise this is it 😄
@jonasdowney amazing. I need to restart Appy Weather 2’s development. When I have, you have a customer!
@jonasdowney I know from experience it couldn’t have been easy coordinating all this with the many providers, so a massive thank you for simplifying every weather app developer’s life.
@jonasdowney This is amazing. (And can't wait for the brand new Hello Weather!)
@viticci thanks!! We’ll send over a TestFlight for you as soon as it’s working well enough 🙏
@jonasdowney would love to be on the TestFlight as well whenever it’s ready!
@jonasdowney @viticci would love to be on the beta list. Hello Weather is one of my favourites!
@jonasdowney I am interested in trying this API. Every time I use a weather app, I find something I would do differently.
• The info I want isn't easy to find.
• I want to see Celsius & Fahrenheit temperatures at the same time (or at least make it easy to toggle on the same screen, without going into settings) to help getting used to the metric system.

@jonasdowney First time hearing about Hello Weather. Nice design! Giving it a try.

It sure would be nice to have severe weather alerts though.

@jonasdowney very cool! It’s nice to see the hard work of building the infrastructure that allows other developers to focus on other things.

@jonasdowney @gruber as one of the folks who used to work at Dark Sky (I did devops over there 2017–2019) this absolutely fills a void that I know many are feeling, even if Apple Weather has an API too.

Kudos!

@jeffbyrnes @gruber thank you! And thanks also for your work on Dark Sky. It’s really what inspired us to make any of this stuff in the first place. 🙏

@jonasdowney you’re welcome, though the real credit goes to Jay & Adam, who built Dark Sky. I came later & helped automate infrastructure stuff (which was a real privilege & a blast!)

Love seeing folks carry forward the spirit of what Adam & Jay were doing! 🙇🏻‍♂️

@jonasdowney @helloweather any plans to use Dynamic Island for weather reports / precipitation etc?
@simonharper @jonasdowney it's on the "maybe someday" list, but not sure if/when we'll get there, sorry!
@helloweather @jonasdowney Cool. Thanks for letting me know. Appreciated.
@jonasdowney Are there any APIs for historical weather data? I've always wished for a weather app that shows me what yesterday's weather was to compare it to what's predicted for today but am not sure where to get that data.
@macrael I think this exists, but it’s not broadly available across most providers. I’ve had the same thoughts and would love to integrate historical records more!

Can't wait for an better view of the App on large iPad and better switch between places, also i hope for an better and longer Radar animations , really love an new version Of Hello Weather in Testflight and little more customizations for layout.

@jonasdowney @helloweather

@jonasdowney That's super exciting! Does the rewrite include the Android app, or just iOS for now? Thanks!!
