There's a lot to talk about in this week's #Linux and #opensource news video: the fundamentally broken #FOSS funding model, embodied by the troubles of core-js, the demise of Mycroft, leaving their backers hanging, @thunderbird redesign, Real Time #Ubuntu being announced, or the release of @kde 5.27, and a lot more!

So, let's dive in:

Also, I tried adding chapters through ID3 tags, so maybe platforms that didn't support the JSON chapters will have them now!

The Linux Experiment Podcasts
@thelinuxEXP @thunderbird @kde terrible to hear about Mycroft. It was on of my favorite FOSS projects and had a ton of potential. Not to mention it was being integrated into Home Assistant. Wonder what will happen there.

@thelinuxEXP
I'm surprised to hear that backers aren't getting their mark II's.. because I did receive mine (but yeah as you said. The official software is terrible)

#linux #opensource #foss #ubuntu

@thibaultmol It’s all the remaining backers that didn’t get theirs yet, they won’t get it at all
@thelinuxEXP @thunderbird @kde another great watch Nick! You actually inspired me to come over to here and I’m loving it! The change compared with Twitter is night and day! Have really enjoyed making my own timeline rather than relying on an algorithm! Making for an interesting read so far!

@thelinuxEXP, @niccolove made a similar video about #FOSS funding that made me contemplate the issue and make multiple toots (sorry, I know you hate the slang).

I really think there needs to be (and maybe there already is) a BSD/MIT style of license that stipulates if a commercial organization is generating <n> significant digits of profit annually, then that organization is compelled to contribute, in a recurring manner, code maintenance or direct monetary compensation of a maintainer.

@thelinuxEXP @thunderbird @kde it makes you want to support more projects, but it also makes you mad these million and billion dollar companies aren’t pulling their weight.
