Sammy@proedie @georgetakei agree, I was going say that for a lot of these points the "democrat" view isn't accurate they're way more right wing. There's no actual left wing progressive party in the US, only a handful of officials who are mostly ridiculed as being "fringe".

We have other parties like the Green Party whose policies include things like basic wage for everyone. It’s highly unlikely these marginal parties will get in while we still have the fptp system. I will still vote Green.

Talk Hard@georgetakei This is exactly what's going on right now in Canada with the PC Party (Canadian Trumpsters) the Premier of Ontario Doug Ford who is a vocal supporter of Donald Trump has managed to dismantle our Universal Health Care making it now two tiered, one where if you're wealthy enough you get faster AND better care privately or you can languish for 12 hrs in an over extended ER because you're barely making ends meet.

@talkhard @georgetakei what country? Sad to say, this happened while we were being distracted by a bunch of crap in the news. Biden wasn't my first choice, but I thought he was doing ok until he cut the railroad union off at the knees by forbidding them to strike. If Bernie had won the Democratic nomination things would be so much better here in the states.

Sébastien Barbieri@georgetakei From a Belgian perspective, it makes me smile. We had a gay socialist prime minister for years. We have full healthcare support (including dental...), minimum salaries, and union protection for everyone. We pay 50% of taxes on the part of our salary above 42k€/year for solidarity. The taxes are used to cover abortion as well as education and well-being in general. But of course, lobbies and investment companies contribute to laws and move lines to the right... the same as in US.
