Morning friends. Today's QOTD...What is the dumbest design feature on your car?

@Basmitharts On my Tundra the cruise control resets below 25 MPH. Can't resume. Also, the main switch for the cruise has to be turned on every time you turn the car on. My Prius was the same way, must be a Toyota thing.
@Basmitharts the tire sensor that doesn’t actually check tire pressure, but goes off if one of the wheels rotates at a different rate than the others. It also doesn’t identify the specific tire, just gives you a light and let’s you guess.
@Basmitharts on the Merc, it’s the outside cameras that only function if the radio is turned on.

@Basmitharts

The rear hatch handle, it's the only thing to pull on to physically open the hatch.

It's literally built as a trim piece, thin plastic. Guaranteed to break.

@Basmitharts on the 5er Touring, having the battery in the trunk—accessed via an electric tailgate latch. Dead battery = no access to battery (except by climbing through the interior).

On the i3, more insidious, the A-pillars are way too thick, and positioned in such a way as to frequently hide not-insignificant objects, such as pedestrians who might not hear the car coming 😬

@autonerdery @Basmitharts At least yours was a wagon; on the sedans the only option is to hook up another battery to the jump points under the hood.
@Basmitharts Honda Civic mk 9 (probably others) you cannot close individual dashboard vents, so when I have my phone hanging on the vent in the winter I cannot use these vents at all or my phone will overheat from hot air. It blows cold air in the summer however, so it's 50:50 😁
First world problems I guess...
@Basmitharts I thought of another dumb design. It's a hatchback with really steep slope. Because of that when you look through the rear view mirror you don't see thorough the whole rear view window.
Some great engineers though you don't need heating elements on the the parts of the rear view window you don't see. You guessed it - half the window is still covered in ice and you wipers don't really like it 😂

@Basmitharts

Porsche 924 - mounting the alternator to the block via rubber.

@Basmitharts

Porsche 944 (early) Keeping the 924 dash with a hole for the mono speaker with nothing in there

@Basmitharts do you see those tiny stars on some of the point of interest icons? Nobody knows what they mean. No mention online, no reference in the manual. Even the BMW dealer didn’t know and couldn’t figure it out. Some Bavarian programmer must be very proud, though.

@Basmitharts The gas and brake pedals in my GTI are metal and look good. But when your shoe is wet it easily slips off the pedals.

Best...the rear view camera is hidden behind the VW badge on the hatch. It only comes out when you put the car in Reverse. It is always clean due to this.

@Basmitharts I'm going to go against the grain and say my car - 2005 Accord Executive - genuinely doesn't have one. I've tried to think of anything that annoys me, and there just isn't anything. It's all clear, well thought out and just works.

I mean, I could do without electric seats, but that's just a preference :)

@Basmitharts In my Seat Leon the door pockets are so tiny they’re almost useless. Can’t even hold a water bottle.

My wife’s Peugeot 2008 had the smallest glovebox I’ve ever seen. You would struggle to get an actual pair of gloves in there…

@Basmitharts The Mazdaspeed3 does not have a temp gauge. A turbo car that received heat management upgrades in it's refresh to a second generation somehow did NOT get a temp gauge.
@Basmitharts 2003 RAV4 mid level GX … as a aging banger I wish it didn’t come with a sunroof as the rubber has hardened and pops out of place if we accidentally open it.
Needs a 5sp AT.
2002 Airtrek Turbo-R … sliding rear bench would improve load flexibility. Perhaps add cruise control but nothing annoying day to day.
@Basmitharts
2003 Chevy Express Roadtrek… I’m not a fan of US style column gear selectors necessitating indicators and wipers on same stalk. Moving the gas filler to the rear and running a flexible pipe to the front That sags and causes air pockets that prevent filling the tank was a very bad idea But better than leaving it near the water heater I guess.
@Basmitharts 2011 Ford Fusion. Like it has folding rear seats, but not fond of the latches being in the trunk.
@Basmitharts My Prius came with relatively handsome alloy wheels with incredibly crappy looking plastic wheel covers on them. Ostensibly, these are to improve aerodynamics, but their main function appears to be to stick out past the tire sidewall and be the point of first contact any time you’re near a curb, thereby improving Toyota’s fiscal year at $110.76 each…😖
@Basmitharts The only use I’ve ever found fir the dumb shelf on the previous-gen Yaris dashboard.
It doesn’t even hold an entire baguette… 🙄
@ajpbradley @Basmitharts the rain channels on the 1er coupe/very boot are so quick that if you open the boot when it’s been raining heavily and you’re in line with the exits you’re going to get a wet upper leg. Same also applies during car washing…
@Basmitharts took me 2 days to realize the answer is the Giulia's wildly inaccurate fuel gauge 😡
@slirt It's Italian, it's really just it's feelings about fuel.
