@tofugolem for me, it was when they rolled out Beacon that the scales fell from my eyes. It showed such an astonishing lack of understanding of the dynamics of interpersonal lives, and such callous disregard for the possible negative effects of its software. I left, but like you I didn't close it, the account still moulders there, quietly, infinitesimally mucking up their stats!
@nickkearney @tofugolem I gigged for a time in assessing bugs and security flaws in developer portals, early enough to compel me to never set up my own Facebook account. And when Beacon rolled out I figured users might finally wise up. It didn’t really change a thing. The trajectory of FB growth continued unabated as too many users were hooked, and enthusiastically so….
@nickkearney @tofugolem …I have to remind myself of this when I get discouraged by how Twitter likewise keeps pushing the envelope and most of the users don’t care. Or at least they care enough to complain about what a flaming trash heap it’s become, but not enough to leave it.
