Went to see the space exhibit with my husband in downtown Boston for Valentine’s Day. Check out this cool 80s laptop they used on the space shuttle!

There’s a GIANT serial port on the side for a trackball. 😂

2/ Lots of cool stuff there!
@briannawu curious about those bolts and wires on the sides. Some kind of grounding for the components inside?
@famousringo Dust caps on connectors with the cable to keep it from floating away when the cap is off. Metal might be helpful for static protection, but probably just mil-spec parts.
@briannawu Would love to turn up for a meeting with one of these.

@briannawu It always strikes me funny how similar the Apollo DSKY (https://history.nasa.gov/afj/compessay.html), the on-board computer to this sci-fi illustration (https://rrhorton.blogspot.com/2019/08/birthday-review-sleeping-planet-by.html?m=1), placed in the future, but drawn during the same time period as the DSKY.

It’s always fun to see what we thought futuristic was back in the day, like the Chrysler turbine car, or to old Buck Rogers animations with space ships that buzzed and smoked.

@briannawu I would so be into a modern laptop with a similar form factor (just crank up the performance and add a bigger screen.) Yes, I want all the anodized blue casing bits, too.
@briannawu Hinge reliability looks quite good…
