Cable Management Workout
@BasicAppleGuy Perfect, this is my main form of excercise.
@sskylar fitter than you thought!
@BasicAppleGuy Stay tuned for my As-Seen-On-TV workout video, exclusively on VHS 💪
@BasicAppleGuy could have used this last weekend. Never did I realise it was so difficult to keep your arms raised while laying on your back for so long 🥵
@BasicAppleGuy I did one similar yesterday, but mine was “fixing the bathroom faucet stopper”
@BasicAppleGuy I had to take down my cable trays temporarily to move my monitor arms and this is the current state of things
@matthewcassinelli @BasicAppleGuy I see and raise you:
@stephenrobles I see a velcro strap holding one together. That’s a good start!
@stephenrobles @BasicAppleGuy This is what videos, podcasts, and streaming will do to a desk setup 😅
@stephenrobles How can a guy have such a tidy desk yet this underneath 🤣
@sinky Lights, cameras, action!
@stephenrobles @matthewcassinelli @BasicAppleGuy oh, we’re doing under desk cable management?
@HilliTech @matthewcassinelli @BasicAppleGuy Now HOLD UP. What’s that net thing??

@stephenrobles @matthewcassinelli @BasicAppleGuy It’s… a net. Privacy divider with cable management that came with my desk. Likely third party versions exist, but this is probably purchasable separately from UpLift.

Just hooks into these little things that attach to the back of the desk.

Modesty Panel with Wire Management by UPLIFT Desk

Functionally modest, the UPLIFT Modesty Panel features mesh pockets to hide wires, adapters, and surge protectors out of sight. Multiple sizes available.

UPLIFT Desk
@HilliTech @stephenrobles @BasicAppleGuy That is actually great 👀
@matthewcassinelli @stephenrobles @BasicAppleGuy It's a must with motorized sit/stand desks. Otherwise you've got a real problem with cables getting pinched or pulled. Not super pretty, but it gets the job done. I could do a better job by zip tying the excess and cleaning it up, but at least it isn't dangling around.

@HilliTech @stephenrobles @matthewcassinelli @BasicAppleGuy I have an UpLift desk and use the same one. It’s awesome!
@HilliTech oh and since I didn’t need the outside divider to look clean, since it’s on the wall, I installed it backwards so the cables face the wall and divider side is clean under the desk. Since my desk has wheels it’s easy to get behind the desk if needed.
@rseilham I didn’t think of that, but now I’ll be turning mine around!
@meewosh @BasicAppleGuy Lol I like the one copper speaker wire that doesn't seemingly even need to be there
@matthewcassinelli @BasicAppleGuy I’ve changed it recently (for a white one, obviously), but it still required for this kind of speakers. (Despite having three HomePods at home I remained oldschool in the office)

@meewosh I GUESS that looks nice — also I was just yanking yer chain.

Those speakers do look great, I want that exact thing but minified if it exists

@meewosh @matthewcassinelli @BasicAppleGuy Yamaha Piano Craft speakers, beuty and a beast at the same time. Still in love after all these years.
@matthewcassinelli this legit scares me lol
@steveriggins It’s fine, my feet only catch on the cords every few hours
@matthewcassinelli @BasicAppleGuy Looks familiar. I purchase a new under desk mount for my Mac Mini and I'm not looking forward to having to reroute all the wires even though I know it will be better in the end.
@bencollins I actually have one of those too but I don’t think it’ll work for me, I have dual monitors and also wires going to an overhead rig so that lost distance is too much for me to mount it near the front

@matthewcassinelli I currently have mine mounted in a little shelf but the back on it only has two holes which makes any sort of changes almost impossible. I bought an open back mount from Sengtek on Amazon for the Mac Studio that @jsnell recommended. I also have two monitors and the cable length has been a challenge at times.

Good luck!

@matthewcassinelli @BasicAppleGuy 😱
Seriously though, it happens to all of us 😜
@BasicAppleGuy Currently my lock screen wallpaper for my work focus.
@BasicAppleGuy if my cables were like that, it would drive me insane. 😂😭
@BasicAppleGuy There must be one for IKEA furniture assembly as well.
@BasicAppleGuy Oh man, the workout on this one is the 417 eye-twitch curls I just performed after seeing that photo on the right.
@BasicAppleGuy Not enough stripped RJ45 cables with bare ends shoved into mains sockets! #etherkiller
@BasicAppleGuy that's barely a warm-up

@BasicAppleGuy If you want bonus aesthetics & sustainability in fixing it, #CableLacing with some twine in a green-ish fiber (something low-resources).

Although even cotton is probably still vastly preferable to using plastic-based velcro or cable ties.

@BasicAppleGuy aaaagh! Does no one use cable ties or Velcro strips? I get kind of a Marie Kando moment out of a well bundled set of cables.
@BasicAppleGuy @cstross I was a little concerned when my new Oura ring asked me to categorize a workout after carrying laundry up and down the stairs, but it actually has a “housework” option! (Strangely it had no option for spitting wood, though.)
@BasicAppleGuy Better to bin the lot and get new cables :p
@BasicAppleGuy I feel like I would never be able to end workout on that one.
