Exactly one year ago today, a certain formerly-feral kitty felt brave enough to explore our master bedroom for the first time.

What he found there blew his little street kitty mind.

That's right: today is the first anniversary of Napoleon discovering duvets exist.

By this point, he'd been stuck in the house with us for a few weeks. We'd captured him while he was sick, and once he was stronger he'd then been sent off for his jabs and to be snipped.

He had discovered scritches by this point, but was still unsure about this 'coming indoors' thing.

Then... duvets.

Imagine spending the first year of your life living on the street, scrounging for food, sleeping with one eye open, with the softest, warmest thing you've ever sat on being some straw someone left outside in a kennel for you.

Then discovering duvets exist.

And of course the discovery of duvets meant, shortly afterwards, he decided to try duvet hugs.

Which was basically the point at which (unbeknownst to him) we decided that if he came back post-release then he could stay forever.

And when we did release him a month or so later, once his stitches had healed and the worst of winter had passed, he disappeared for a few hours. Then strolled right back in, came straight upstairs and... ...well. it was clear what was a key factor in his decision-making. 😆

So yes. Happy Duvet Day, for all who celebrate it.

Napoleon, of course, is already doing so.

@garius The timeline has aligned perfectly. 😽
@garius Every day is a duvet day if you’re a cat! 😸
@garius sorting out our bedding last year, when a small black hole found the motherlode
@garius Bless him. He did find the right humans eventually, poor love.
We had one that slept in the airing cupboard - on a particular blanket. Always knew where to find her.
@garius oh my goodness 😭😭😭💖💖💖
@garius Thank you for sharing Napoleon's Duvet Day story. Duvets are quite magical and a well suited environment for cats. I'm happy Napoleon found his Furever Duvet and the humans that tend it.
@garius our two rescue boys are channeling the spirit of Duvet Day right now. After 7 years they know all the best spots and we admire them from lesser seatings. #CatsOfMastodon

@garius

Happy Duvet Day💯🙌🏾🪔

@garius A dear, sweet, kitty. So glad he got to come in from the cold.

@garius This is Ferdie. After being (literally) dug out of a hole with the rest of his litter, he spent 2.5 years in a Spanish shelter.

We introduced him to duvets 2 years ago and he has never looked back ♥️

@garius I love this picture and the description so much. Happy duvet day, Napoleon
@blazingskies i try to make sure the captions convey what the photo is showing, not just the mechanics of it.
@blazingskies @garius Seconded! Happy Duvet-versary to Napoleon. My (neglected when we got him) rescue void cat fell in love with hugs and is now all purrs and chirrups rather than all claws and teeth. He also discovered nesting between two big soft pillows on the spare bed, or sitting inside the towel cupboard, on top of the fluffy things 😸
@garius That’s a happy story. Congratulations on your new family member. Purrrrrrrrrrrrrrs

@garius

Happy Duvet Discovery Day, Napoleon!

(Not the food. Not the scritches. Not the warmth. None of these were the deciding factor in becoming a House Cat. But the duvet...!)

@garius Happy duvetversary, Emperor! May your togs always be in double digits.
@garius If I had never seen a bed before, and the first one I found had the footprint of a generously sized dining room (compared to my size) — then I'd probably not want to get out of bed, ever, either
@garius @bob Aww, happy Duvet Day! 2022: the year Napoleon discovered The Duvet. 😻
@garius What a great little story!
@garius
Happy duvet day to Napoleon.
@garius 🥰🥰🥰 he is gorgeously gorgeous 💕this is how we ended up with many o our cats over the years 💖
@garius Can confirm, formerly-feral kitties LOVE the duvet. My cat Kiki (formerly-feral) goes bananas whenever I make my bed. Insists on being right there, in the middle of it, every time.
@garius the LUXURY must have been overwhelming. And the warmth!
@garius It makes me so happy that Napoleon has his forever home and has fully embraced duvets.
@garius Stranger sliding in to adore that precious formerly-feral void-kitty! 🖤🖤🖤
@garius “Outside” is really overrated.😂😂
@garius Happy Duvet Day Napoleon! (Imagine stumbling onto that phrase with no context 😹 )
@garius OMG! It looks like he is melting into the duvet. 😂😻
@garius that maybe the happiest kitty pic I've ever seen.
@garius This Napoleon is almost sixteen!
@garius how completely precious
@garius … My constant ferrel today ‘Kitty’ hid under my bed for two days then one day and now runs the house with her sister ‘Smokey’ and ‘Zoe’!…
They all stay in when the weather is shiite but,,, they are still outdoor cats!
They just know where the food is!… ;-)
@garius Our little Joey Ramone is a rescue from Little Wanderers in nyc. As they say, “from the streets to the sheets!” 😍

@[email protected] "Napoleon" ❤️

As Moominpappa would say, "what a wise animal"

@garius Oh thank you for this. I needed this story today!
@garius
:)) THX for sharing the story and images of the happy little guy.
@garius his expression is so so dumb
