New study suggests today’s SUVs are more lethal to pedestrians than cars

SUVs, which make up an increasingly large share of the vehicle fleet, are more likely to kill pedestrians than cars. Fresh designs haven't changed that.

@BrentToderian Some of these cars just shouldn’t be allowed in cities, or only with a special permit at the least.
@BrentToderian The US put a size and weight limit on cars, so people switched to trucks and SUVs. Its why we no longer have chryslers as big as a whale. This totally tracks.
@BrentToderian Does this include CUVs? I'd really like to know, because some people, including car advertisers, fail to differentiate CUVs from SUVs. And for any sort of statistical analysis to be meaningful, we need to know the definitions of the categories being analyzed.
@BrentToderian Having these monsters inching toward you as you cross at an intersection is frightening as all get out.
@BrentToderian How is this news? Larger, heavier vehicles with worse visibility of the road directly ahead. It’s pretty obvious. There’s some ridiculously huge vehicles appearing on our roads now. Any safety features only serve to protect their own occupants.
@BrentToderian These vehicles seem of a piece with our in the US inability to enact gun control and the “you do you” approach to pandemic mitigation. Very much focused on the owner/consumer at the expense of the wider community.
@BrentToderian "fresh designs" have made things worse
